(FORT BRAGG) - A sergeant on trial for a grenade attack at an Army camp in the Kuwait desert days before the Iraq invasion wrote in his diary before he was deployed about killing fellow soldiers.

An FBI agent read four passages from Sergeant Hasan Akbar's computer diary Thursday.

Akbar wrote about making the choice to kill Iraqis, whom he called his Muslim brothers, or "my battle buddies."

He said in one passage that if the Army left him at Fort Campbell and didn't try to humiliate him, he wouldn't do anything.

But the passage ended by saying that if he was sent to Iraq, he would "try to kill as many of them as possible."

Akbar is charged with two counts of first degree murder and is eligible for a death sentence.

Prosecutors said the diary entries show he planned to kill soldiers and that his actions warrant a death sentence.

Thanks for the update. I'm looking forward to the day when the trial will be over -- then we can start the clock running on the 20+ years of appeals that are still to come.

Hi, if you check in comment 17 or 18, you might find an article that will fit your questions.

From my recollections the FBI was minimal. I suppose we might send a note to those following the case, letting them know we are posting their articles to stay abreast of the trial, who knows maybe they would be willing to answer our questions. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

The trial took 2 years plus for various defense reasoning's, to be expected I suppose, but it finally got under way last week.

Hope that helped?

Happy to help. It does help us bring the whole case back to our fingertips. It has been so long many things have been forgotten, and we have wonderful Freeper's who have also posted threads on this case and I hate to see their hard work go unappreciated.

It is most sad, to see the depth of pain he caused so many. To have to be the victim's rehashing this horrible crime, well, I know they want justice but it must be shattering to their heart's all over again.

I had not about it in those terms, but, I think you are right, had he been there or here, there were going to be folks either murdered or injured, it just happened to be in the first days of the war.

Why would the FBI have any involvement?

The FBI is probably better at computer forensics than the military is. Let them take a look at the computer and see if anything had been "deleted" recently instead of letting the MPs try to do it.

Remember, if you "delete" a file on the computer, all it does is mark that space on the disk as available to be reused. It doesn't actually wipe out the information at that time.

Absolutely! I will go thru the threads and get caught up. Maybe the FBI provided technical assistance during the investigation. I deeply hope his alleged mental issues don't complicate things. But will stay up with it now. Thanks again, much appreciated.

You know for this one case, I would endure the 20 years as long as he gets death. Not life. There is NO doubt that he did the crime. There is no doubt he was sane at the time no matter how much the defense lies. I will be waiting at the gate at Ft Leavenworth, with photo's of those he murdered or injured.

Should he go somewhere else, like the FED PEN here in Leavenworth I will be there as well.

If he gets life, well darn it all there is no justice. I will be very disappointed should that be the verdict rendered.

I also wanted to thank you for all the wonderful threads you posted after he murdered his fellow military member's it does help refresh the minds when they are on Free Republic for our review.

"So will he be stood against a wall or face a noose?"

Lethal injection is the manner of execution in the U.S. military.

As I see it the man was destined to kill Americans. He says he attacked due to being sent to kill his muslim brothers but I think he would have eventually decided that he was killing them by proxy simply be being an American citizen.

It's purely my opinion but I think this guy would have eventually launched an attack right here in America and likely killed American civilians.

If he had joined the Army for the right reasons, he would have been glad to kill terrorists.

I agree with your thoughts about what the punishment should be. On the other hand, I try not to put TOO much emotional investment into our courts -- even military courts, which usually run better than civilian ones. I've seen too many decisions that are just nonsense.

Makes a lot of sense. So, I presume the FBI was serving as consultants to the Criminal Investigation Division.

Exactly, unless it's overwritten.

Why did this individual join the military in the first place? There's no draft. He didn't HAVE to fight for the U.S.

That's a darn good question. I doubt we'll ever know what went on in his mind (and it wouldn't be a pretty picture if we could see it).

Neither. This is the new progressive America. He will get life and we'll be paying for his room and board and medical care for the next 50 years.

Heck, he may even join OJ on the golf course looking for the realer killers.

"His own writings show he had enemy sympathies"

It sounds more like premeditated murder to me.

I thought the gov't and MSM had successfully hushed this all up! The AP obviously didn't get the memo.
