I don't know if Ratzinger should be elected but Germany is close enough for it to work for Europe if thats what the Holy Spirit thinks is necessary.

His will be done.

Yes, it has been a while. Do they do incense, robes and Mary now?

Two paragraphs deserve highlight:

One mere individual matters far more than we imagine. After the embarrassing revelations about the ex-storm trooper Kurt Waldheim, the United Nations did not get restoration from a Pope John Paul II-like figure, but instead the likes of Boutros Boutros-Ghali and Kofi Annan. Both deeply flawed secretaries-general only reinforced the image of an irrelevant and corrupt bureaucracy. And were Prince Charles more like his mother than his aunt Margaret, the British monarchy would not now stand in such disrepute.

and

The current crisis in Western culture is not over the famine or pestilence of the past but the boredom of an affluent and leisured populace -- at once yearning for transcendence beyond its rich but ultimately unsatisfying material world, and yet so skeptical of anything not explicable by pure reason, the source of all its worldly pleasures. An inspiring pontiff challenges Western civilization to rethink that the world is only what can be seen or heard; an irrelevant pope confirms cynics' smugness that religion is an unnecessary and superstitious creed.

Much better than John Derbyshire's coverage on the pope.

British monarchy and pope ping!

The last thing the Catholic church needs is a 3rd world Pope. They are culturally strict but are by and large infected with liberation theology. The Papacy was born in Europe and must stay there.

And African loon is running the UN, I don't want to risk the same for the Catholic church (I'm not catholic)

The clergy in Latin America is infected with dabbling with Marxism, however Africa is a bastion of conservatism in every sense in so far as the Church is concerned.

I would think African Catholic clergy is the same but perhaps I'm wrong. Desmond Tutu is a hopeless racist commie ... yes, I know he's Anglican

Is there a conservative French Cardinal?

"The church is growing in Africa and South America, but is dying in Europe."

Time for them to send missionaries.

Where there is no vision, the people perish.
