HTML Help Wanted
Posted on 04/13/2005 3:26:36 PM PDT by Tom D.
I have looked at the HTML Boot Camp and have learned a lot there, but I have been unable to learn how to post a picture that is resident on my computer that I did not get off of the web. I know how to post a picture taken from the web using the form:
img_src="http://www.hotpix.com/images/xyz.gif" (enclosed by < >)
I do not know how to post a picture that I have stored on my hard drive. For instance, say I take a picture of Teddy Kennedy in a drunken stupor slobbering all over Hillary Clinton with my digital camera. I save the picture on my home computer and then want to post it on FreeRepublic.
Since I do not have a web address in the form of www.drunkenteddy.com/stinkoncrap.gif, the above form will not work.
I will appreciate any help that any of you who are much better versed in HTML can provide. If it makes any difference, I use Windows XP.
Thanks,
Tom D.

How did you get your profile to be of one color and lose the "edit your homepage" link? I can't seem to do that.

I don't see this posted anywhere, but your internet provider probably includes some web space in the price of your connection.
Go to their home page and check.

For instance, say I take a picture of Teddy Kennedy in a drunken stupor slobbering all over Hillary Clinton with my digital camera(shudder...) that's the beauty of digital cameras - you can delete pictures before they infect the world.

You could download httpd software and make your computer a server. A good choice for that could be
Xitami or maybe
Pi3Web Both are open source and will work with WinDoze.
I do not recommend this approach.
You would be better advised to upload to server that specializes in hosting photos, etc. IMHO

Excellent! I just tried it, tho' I notice it doesn't add the HEIGHT and WIDTH tags, which I think we've been asked to use on FR.
Thanks for this helpful link.

You're welcome. I don't think the height and width tags are needed unless the image you're trying to post is way out of proportion for FR's page. I haven't checked in a long time, but doubt most people use them. Always preview what you want to post and if needed, add the tags

I haven't checked in a long time, but doubt most people use them. *LOL* you are probably right.
Hope this helps Tom.

WRONG!!!!
If you do not include width and height codes, then the page is locked at that point until the image loads. If the image is not accessable, then the page freezes until a server response happens. PLEASE use width and height codes.

Good point. That is an annoying problem with not using H&W

By just using either the height or the width tag the picture will maintain its aspect ratio and you don't have to calculate it. Otherwise you could end up with a picture like this:

For instance, say I take a picture of Teddy Kennedy in a drunken stupor slobbering all over Hillary Clinton with my digital camera. Not to worry. If you saw that and snapped the pic, your camera destroyed itself and you either commited suicide or ArkanMassSuicide happened. You're a dead man typing.
