I try to have a more optimistic outlook and hope Republicans and conservatives are smarter than that. I suspect that given a choice between McCain and Clinton, in most cases conservatives will do exactly what they did in 1992: stay home. Either way, Hillary wins.

My doomsday scenario for 2008 is Hillary convinces McCain to run as a third party independent. He siphons off enough Republican votes to give her the election. McCain gets his payoff after inauguration.

We may have a real problem. If Hillary wins, what conservative country do we threaten to move to?

Any member of FR who would seriously consider voting for Hillary under any circumstances should be put under double secret probation immediately.

That would include a lot of us. I was recently on another thread having exactly the same discussion. There were at least a dozen FReepers saying exactly the same thing I did.

All things being equal, I would actually abstain from such a vote altogether. However, that doesn't change the fact that I believe a Clinton Presidency with the caveat of a strongly Republican Congress would be infinitely preferable to a McCain Presidency with the same Congress. After all, that's what our form of government is all about, isn't it?

Thats one thing many here discount.. when Clinton was in the white house our Republican congressmen were at the top of their game. Holding the spending steady, balancing the budget etc. And we had the prosperity to show for it.

It's sad to think that if you combine the feminoids, tenured professors, public employees, union goons, welfare deadbeats, NAMBLA child molesters and assorted liberal miscreants, they add up to 43% of the voting population.

You left out African-Americans, Seniors, and Hispanics. Those are larger numbers of voters than any you mentioned.

My dream vision at the moment is that Condi stands up, declares that she has seen the light and is now pro-life, and runs for the presidency.

A good reason to vote for Hillary. I'd rather have a real good liar in the white house than an amateur.

We will be. It's impossible that McCain could win the Republican nomination unless he's unopposed, and that never happens in an open field without an incumbent.

I'm not even sure McCain will run. Every time I see him his face is puffier. He makes Dick Cheney look like a high school quarterback.

As I've said before, Hillary's campaign slogan will be: "It takes a Clinton....". You can fill in the blank, "to win the White House", "...to restore the Democratic Party.", etc., etc.

She's running and if she loses it will be very, very close. Too many women will vote for her 'because it's time for a woman president.'

I think Steyn is wrong. Hillary is not electable.

They said that about sKerry. Heck, I said that about sKerry! He failed, but look how close he came. Mr. "I mean everything to no one, and nothing to everybody" managed to close ranks with the factions in his party and, along with massive contributions from Soros and the MSM, almost pulled off what would be the greatest scam in American politics.

During the "10 little idiots" phase of the demo primaries, I said that if sHrillary truly had any ambitions to run, she would have to run now, while she had any political capitol to spend. 2008 was too far off and one cannot save political capitol or good will. She didn't, and I breathed a sigh of relief.

She is electable. I'm counting on conservatives joining ranks to make certain she isn't elected
