MINUTEMEN MULLING HILLARY INVITE (YIKES!!!)
NewsMax ^ | 4/13/05

The lead organizer for the border patrol group the Minutemen said Tuesday that he wants to invite New York Sen. Hillary Clinton to come to the Arizona-Mexico border this month to review their operation, which has so far netted the arrests of more than 300 illegal immigrants.

"We're thinking of inviting Hillary Clinton," Minuteman founder James Gilchrist told ABC Radio host Sean Hannity, adding that he'd already looked into flight arrangements to Arizona for the former first lady and could provide appropriate security.

Gilchrist's decision to invite Clinton was likely prompted by her tough comments on border security - remarks that place her sharply to the right of the Bush administration on the issue.

"I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants," she announced in Feb. 2003 radio interview, adding that "people have to stop employing illegal immigrants."

"I mean, come up to Westchester, go to Suffolk and Nassau counties," Clinton railed. "Stand on the street corners in Brooklyn or the Bronx; you're going to see loads of people waiting to get picked up to go do yard work and construction work and domestic work."

"Clearly, we have to make some tough decisions as a country," the top Democrat urged.

In comments last November, the likely 2008 presidential nominee blasted the Bush administration for turning a blind eye to the problems at the border.

"I don't think that we have protected our borders or our ports or provided our first responders with the resources they need, so we can do more and we can do better," Clinton told the Fox News Channel.

"There's technology now available," she noted. "There are some advanced radar systems. There are biometric and other kinds of identification systems that we've been very slow to deploy and unwilling to spend money on."

Gilchrist said his patrol operation is open to Clinton and anyone else who wants to review its progress, explaining, "When I first launched this in October I insisted that we have open season for all law enforcement to come in and do whatever they want - and the same with the media."

And he pointed out the obvious political benefit for any politician who wants to lend support, noting, "For every [Minuteman] down here we've probably got a hundred thousand supporters across the country."

Gilchrist said the Minutemen have already helped round up scores of illegals.

"About 300," he told Hannity. "And about 40 of those were from an aerial observer who was up six hours yesterday in his aircraft."

We have got to make Mexico reinforce the border from its side. I think the "Minutemen" are being allowed to operate (because believe me, our law could stop them if it wanted to) as a threat to the Mexican government. The US, officially, cannot set up border posts, walls or any of the other things some people are clamoring for - imagine the press, and of course the judges would knock it down immediately.

Interesting. This makes me wonder (slightly off-subject) what will happen when the minutemen come to Texas (my home state), as planned. There is serious danger, especially on the border at Laredo - Nuevo Laredo. Full running gun battles that have included cross-border shootings. In this case, the minutemen would very seriously be endagering their own lives, as well as the lives of law enforcement by making a bad situation worse.

That doesn't mean I disagree with what they are doing. But I wonder how they will be received over here. I can very realistically see law enforcement barring them from the area. And when you're looking at problem areas, as the minutemen are, ignoring that part of the border (one of the major crossings into the US for freight, drugs, illegals) would be like doing port security without including New York. Or something like that. ;)

Politics, ya just got to love it.

The Rattle-Snake as a Symbol of America

Messrs. PRINTERS, I observed on one of the drums belonging to the marines now raising, there was painted a Rattle-Snake, with this modest motto under it, "Don't tread on me." As I know it is the custom to have some device on the arms of every country, I supposed this may have been intended for the arms of America; and as I have nothing to do with public affairs, and as my time is perfectly my own, in order to divert an idle hour, I sat down to guess what could have been intended by this uncommon device -- I took care, however, to consult on this occasion a person who is acquainted with heraldry, from whom I learned, that it is a rule among the learned in that science "That the worthy properties of the animal, in the crest-born, shall be considered," and, "That the base ones cannot have been intended;" he likewise informed me that the antients considered the serpent as an emblem of wisdom, and in a certain attitude of endless duration -- both which circumstances I suppose may have been had in view. -- Having gained this intelligence, and recollecting that countries are sometimes represented by animals peculiar to them, it occured to me that the Rattle-Snake is found in no other quarter of the world besides America, and may therefore have been chosen, on that account, to represent her.

But then "the worthy properties" of a Snake I judged would be hard to point out -- This rather raised than suppressed my curiosity, and having frequently seen the Rattle-Snake, I ran over in my mind every property by which she was distinguished, not only from other animals, but from those of the same genus or class of animals, endeavouring to fix some meaning to each, not wholly inconsistent with common sense.

I recollected that her eye excelled in brightness, that of any other animal, and that she has no eye-lids -- She may therefore be esteemed an emblem of vigilance. -- She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage. -- As if anxious to prevent all pretentions of quarrelling with her, the weapons with which nature has furnished her, she conceals in the roof of her mouth, so that, to those who are unacquainted with her, she appears to be a most defenceless animal; and even when those weapons are shewn and extended for her defence, they appear weak and contemptible; but their wounds however small, are decisive and fatal: -- Conscious of this, she never wounds till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her. -- Was I wrong, Sir, in thinking this a strong picture of the temper and conduct of America? The poison of her teeth is the necessary means of digesting her food, and at the same time is certain destruction to her enemies -- This may be understood to intimate that those things which are destructive to our enemies, may be to us not only harmless, but absolutely necessary to our existence. -- I confess I was wholly at a loss what to make of the rattles, 'till I went back and counted them and found them just thirteen, exactly the number of the Colonies united in America; and I recollected too that this was the only part of the Snake which increased in numbers -- Perhaps it might be only fancy, but, I conceited the painter had shewn a half formed additional rattle, which, I suppose, may have been intended to represent the province of Canada. -- 'Tis curious and amazing to observe how distinct and independant of each other the rattles of this animal are, and yet how firmly they are united together, so as never to be separated but by breaking them to pieces. -- One of those rattles singly, is incapable of producing sound, but the ringing of thirteen together, is sufficient to alarm the boldest man living. The Rattle-Snake is solitary, and associates with her kind only when it is necessary for their preservation -- In winter, the warmth of a number together will preserve their lives, while singly, they would probably perish -- The power of fascination attributed to her, by a generous construction, may be understood to mean, that those who consider the liberty and blessings which America affords, and once come over to her, never afterwards leave her, but spend their lives with her. -- She strongly resembles America in this, that she is beautiful in youth and her beauty increaseth with her age, "her tongue also is blue and forked as the lightning, and her abode is among impenetrable rocks."

Having pleased myself with reflections of this kind, I communicated my sentiments to a neighbour of mine, who has a surprizing readiness at guessing at every thing which relates to publick affairs, and indeed I should be jealous of his reputation, in that way, was it not that the event constantly shews that he has guessed wrong -- He instantly declared it as his sentiments, that the Congress meant to allude to Lord North's declaration in the House of Commons, that he never would relax his measures until he had brought America to his feet, and to intimate to his Lordship, that were she brought to his feet, it would be dangerous treading on her. -- But, I am positive he has guessed wrong, for I am sure the Congress would not condescend, at this time of day, to take the least notice of his Lordship in that or any other way. -- In which opinion, I am determined to remain your humble servant, AN AMERICAN GUESSER.

The reason for this surge in illegals over the Mexican border is that we have tightened up other access since 9/11, including the Canada crossings and the visas and permits we give to people from certain high-risk countries, but we can't get Mexico to secure its side. Part of this is corruption (Mexican officials make a lot from letting drug dealers come and go), but much of it is Fox's insane anti-Americanism.

He was elected from the party that was supposedly conservative, but he's been a total flake, loser, and washout. His own party is not even running him again.

Not surprising, given Hillary!'s lip service to the illegal immigration problem,
and President Bush's unfortunate characterization of the Minutemen as "vigilantes".

Inviting Hillary seems like a good tactic to me. Anyone with a working knowledge of her past & ideology understands from the get go that she would not do anything about the massive illegal immigration problem other than maybe advocating an amnesty. However, in politics it is not unheard of, and not necessarily a bad idea, to use the opposing side as a force multiplier in applying pressure to one's own side in an issue fight. Grass roots efforts typically posses minimal resources. If the use a political tactic can bring attention to the issue or perhaps even result in a seat at the table with the powers that be then I have no problem with it.

Just like we've always said. Some people will sell their souls to the devil as long as the devil tells them what they want to hear.

I bet you started to salivate when you saw the title of this thread.

Don't do it Jim!!!! "Lie down with Dogs, get up with fleas!" Hitlery is about as much of a "dog" as you can get. She's as much for regaining control of the border as John Kerry was for hunting deer with a shotgun while crawling on his stomach.

I aggree. This has got to be the all time classic Clintons-will-say-anything-for-a-vote syndrome.

Perhaps Jim was having fun on the Sean Hannity show? Such things can backfire, ya know . . .

Let it be shown that one terrorist crossed the "highly efficient" 1 to 4 strand barbwire fence at the mexican border and pop a device in the middle of Dallas or Phoenix etc, etc. and the 500 to 700 Minutemen you see now will transform into 7,000 to 10,000 in about a week. They will be blocking the border from coast to coast. Within a month there will be a highly organized, fully commo linked, border watching network that no judge that valued a paycheck or possessed a shred of common decency would grant an order against.

Heck, we damn near have that fixing to happen right now.

And is this exactly not happening in AZ? And is that not exactly what was predicted to happen if the MMP actually occurred? Look at what really happened.

Major drop in border crossings in the Tuscon Sector.

BIG TIME inconvenience for and decrease in drug trafficking in the Tuscon Sector.

BIG TIME inconvenience for the mexican goverment Groupa Beta and the mexican army to (get this) stop and divert their own soon-to-be criminal illegal aliens to other sectors that do not have MMP Border Watchers present.

Increase in illegal alien spotted/apprehended ratio.

No cross border sniping.

I stood nearly eye to eye with the boys in the mexican army trucks at the pipeline on the Naco line. Strapped on a Glock 21 while grinning at them. Distance, 25 feet. Was not a damn thing they could do except round up their border busters and go somewhere else.

Priceless.

I think I need to be more clear. The situation I spoke of in Nuevo Laredo (border town of Mexico-Texas) is not a "might happen." It is an already-existing, volatile situation that has been reported here and on news sites for the last several weeks.

Hundreds of Mexican federales were sent to Nuevo Laredo to stem the violence there- but as was predicted, the violence escalated, at least initially. And people were shot in Texas, across the border, very recently. There is an alert in that area because nobody is safe if there are within 'shooting distance' of the border.

So to throw the minutemen into such a situation will only amplify the fears of our border agents that someone else is going to get killed, on our side or their's. You might disagree with that position, but I bet you'll at least see the mm wait a good long while before trying to go to Laredo/Nuevo Laredo.
