HOUSTON, April 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- More than 75 economists nationwide endorsed the FairTax in a letter delivered to the House, Senate, Treasury, tax reform panel and the President today.
Tom Wright, executive director of FairTax.org, stated, "Nearly seven months ago an idea was born in the mind of a FairTax supporter who is an economics professor at the University of Virginia's College at Wise. He wants the broad public to know just how many economists have examined and recommend the FairTax plan. That idea became a project that has finally come to fruition. Over 75 economists, one of whom is a Nobel Prize winner, have now endorsed, specifically, the FairTax HR 25 and S 25, in writing. We call this a direct validation of our more than $22 million in academic and market research completed over the past 10 years. This economist endorsement letter was delivered to the offices of every single tax aide on Capitol Hill this week. We also made sure the President, his tax panel, and Treasury Secretary Snow had a copy. This letter further evidences the fact that Americans realize the inefficiencies of the current system and see the FairTax, HR 25 and S 25, as the proper replacement."

I guess Jorgenson's check hasn't cleared yet...I don't see his name or even Walter Williams endorsement anywhere.
"Fundamental reform is not just a necessity, it's also an opportunity to stop taxing income and start taxing consumption. My colleagues and I have been studying income and consumption taxation via computer simulations for some time now. We've found that switching from taxing wage and capital income to taxing consumption can significantly improve economic efficiency and growth. What's more, it can make our tax system much more progressive and generationally equitable. Fundamental tax reform is long overdue. Consumption taxation is the way to go."
When they start saying "more progressive," watch out. A consumption tax is one that taxes what you spend--sorta like a sales tax.

Only YN and lewislynn could make fun of this. How arrogant.
YN, here is the list of economists you were wanting a few weeks ago. First you want a list, and now that 75 economists have expressly endorsed the Fair Tax plan, which you can't deny they are doing here, you poo-poo it.Actually I was asking for a list of economists who had studied the FairTax. You got any names?
It deserves to be made fun of.
I find it interesting, if not odd, maybe even telling, that the one name of the #1 most quoted economist, used for years as your expert/guru on the fairtax is missing from the endorsement list...
I guess you don't find his name (Jorgenson) missing from the list odd.
Isn't he retired now?
AFT pumps more crude (snake) oil than OPEC.
I kind of find it funny they are advertising that they spent $22 milliion with the specific intent on promoting a sales tax, and economist are swallowing the data on face value. Some of the claims are just plain fraudulant, I can't believe any economists takes them seriously.
Whatever, dude.
Perhaps Walter's grocer finally wised-up to that trade-deficit con-game Walter's been running....
and now he's busy working off his debt by bagging groceries for the guy.
Will never happen, our economy is dependent upon ever increasing levels of consumption and debt.
The only thing that can stop it is high interest rates or a collapsed dollar.
BUMP

Where do you think the $22 million was spent?.
How would I know? Does retirement preclude endorsement?
I thought you knew everything about the known universe.
Really? The only ones who don't seem to get it are YOU guys.
Senility hasn't stopped Milton Friedman from endorsing concepts that he no longer grasps.
He's (Jorgenson) too far out there.
Man, you guys are something else.
