THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Senate Democrats are threatening to bog down the emergency war-spending bill with a broad debate on immigration if Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist doesn't win a guarantee from House Republicans to drop driver's license limits from their chamber's version. Minority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, said yesterday that he wants to ensure the eventual House-Senate conference will not include the House-passed Real ID Act, which cracks down on illegal immigrants' ability to use driver's licenses and restricts asylum claims. Click to learn more... "The problem that is here is that when they go to conference, they just put Real ID in it," he said. "Unless we have some way of having assurance that that won't happen, which I do not think Senator Frist can get, as much as he'd probably like to, I don't know how I can stop people from offering amendments on immigration"

So, the DemonCat fiends are going to leave our troops defenseless so that illegal aliens can drive around unmolested??

The blood of our troops is on their hands.

Traitors. Every last one of them.

Ooooh... I hope this is true. (read on before you start flaming)

I'd like to see the Democrats try and explain that to their constituents.... Perhaps we'll see another, "I voted for it, before I voted against it."

And the ensuing backlash in the midterm elections as Democrats lose their seats to Republicans.

The Democrats believe their own b.s. polls that say the mission for a free Iraq is unpopular. They believe that their constituents would agree with them that depriving the troops of their funding is a way of supporting the troops.

Of course, we know how this will end. Republicans stick to their guns, and the Democrats cave.

I don't understand how the Real ID Act fits in with emergency funding for the military. Why would the Republicans want to do that? The Real ID Act already passed in the House. Maybe the Senate will pass it, but if there isn't enough votes to pass it in the Senate, it's unlike that the Senate would let it get included in the final bill of the war funding bill. Where is the advantage in doing this? Why waste the time. What am I missing?

As ALWAYS, the spinless Republicans will cave in to the demoncrats. It is a shame that we voted them into office and now they forget all about why we elected them. Talk is cheap, I want action NOW !

It doesn't fit at all. The house repubs want quick passage for various reasons. One is that insurance industry would like to prevent "bad" drivers from getting a license in a second state to avoid paying their bad driver fees. My view is the national ID needs a lot more debate.

It has nothing to do with Frist.

The Senate Parlimentarian, who is charge of protocol, ruled that since the House attached Real ID to the funding bill, members of the Senate may offer and debate other immigration related amendments.
