Good. At least if they don't know where Illinois is then they won't associate it with Chicago.
To: RWR8189
Well, Illinois does sound rather French.

If that will maintain Illinois as a RED STATE, I support it.
So, I should say, Chicago of Lincoln?

In contrast, our citizens have never really resonated to "Illinois," the name of a feckless confederation of tribes of so-called superior men, who in fact fled time and again--and indeed out of our state--before smaller bands of raiding Iroquois. Well befits the state which has the most chicken attitude toward guns out of the whole 50.

Consulting the index of the Atlas, Lincoln and Washington seem to be fairly evenly represented as names of municipalities ( although Lincoln has a noticeable representation overseas. )
There is a Lincoln, Washington, and a Washington, Illinois. To change this to Washington, Lincoln would verge to closely upon the comical, and I cannot recommend it.

I propose Illinois be renamed FIBs (which could stand for "Friendly Illinois Buddies").

No offense to you Freepers from Illinois, but this thread is too rich of a target to resist. lol Honest Abe was probably the last major politician from Illinois who had honesty associated with his name. ;)
He's not even native to that state, he was born in Kentucky (Jeff Davis's birth state), and did not move to Illinois until he was around 21 years old.

Hey Lando, they want to name a state after you!

Illnois is the Land of Lincoln....everyone needs to look at the county map of the 2002 and 2004 elections...it will surprise you.....we are a red state that went blue.

I grew up in a state where the Capital City is called "Lincoln".
(The county where I grew up is named "Douglas")
People in the city of Lincoln used to debate some of us from Douglas County.
Sort of a later-version of the Lincoln-Douglas debates.

I admire Lincoln, but I wouldn't want to ruin Dan Fogelberg's Illinois.

I'd vote for "Chicagoslum" if they insist on changing the name!
