Lots of Hispanics don't vote, for a variety of reasons, and in LA city one of the reasons is that a considerable number are not citizens. Beyond that, Hispanics tend not to care much about politics. They are like Italians pre World War II.

"And if ya think Jimmy Hahn is bad... you ain't seen Aztlan Tony work his magic."

The one silver lining might be that a Villaraigosa mayorship may finally lead the Valley and other parts of LA to secede from the city.

Hahn is being crushed in the endorsement game. I heard that even Bob Naylor, an oldline Republican hack lobbyist, has endorsed V.

Today, it was Magic Johnson who switched to V. Hahn managed to enrage the two biggest parts of his winning 2001 coalition - blacks and SFValley whites.

I should add that I have my doubts as to whether endorsements have any effect on how people vote... however, they are an indicator of where the "smart money" thinks this thing is heading...

If I lived in LA, I'd be writing myself in.

Too bad there isn't a coordinated write-in campaign to split the vote like there was in San Diego a few months ago.

For Mayor of San Diego, a Democrat woman named Donna Frye ran (not necessarily legally) as a write-in during the runoff between two Republican men: incumbent Dick Murphy and challenger Ron Roberts. Murphy "won" with slightly over 1/3 of the vote, despite the purpose of a run-off to ensure the winner has over 1/2 of the vote, and the other candidates each had a slightly lower share. Murphy may be recalled (after the 6-month honeymoon where recalls are forbidden), since nearly 2/3 didn't vote for him.

You all need to keep in mind that Antonio Villaraigosa was championing the drivers license issue several years before Gil Cedillo.

Along with every other part of L.A. that doesn't resemble Guadalajara. Yet.

Isn't the Valley heavily (about 40%) Hispanic (Van Nuys in particular), with large Jewish populations in Studio City and Sherman Oaks? Isn't it also home to the adult film capital of America (Chatsworth)? How the h-ll would a Valley Secession be good for Republicans.

From my perspective Hahn and Villaraigosa are both corrupt liberal jacka-sses that make MY current Mayor (Greg Nickles) look like a paragon of competance.

Didn't say it would be. It would just be good for the valley. Because they wouldn't have their money spent and decisions made over the hill.

For example, Special Order 40 would not be the case. And that might have a teensy impact on the 40% number you quoted. Like, it might go to zero.

But probably not. Do your own research. You'll realize early on that that is what it's about. LA supports colonization by Mexico city, the people in valley don't. They voted to leave, but greater LA got to vote on that too, and they voted to keep the tax base. After all, why let all that money just up and leave? Especially when there are so many good uses it could be put to...like freebies for the illegals.

As far as Villaraigosa vs. Hahn goes, hey, don't ask me. Ask Hal Netkin . He lives there. I just go there.
