Feline lovers, hunters hiss over cat hunt
CNN ^ | Tuesday, April 12, 2005

Feline lovers holding pictures of cats, clutching stuffed animals and wearing whiskers faced-off against hundreds of hunters at meetings around Wisconsin to voice their opinion on whether to legalize cat hunting.

Residents in 72 counties were asked whether free-roaming cats -- including any domestic cat that isn't under the owner's direct control or any cat without a collar -- should be listed as an unprotected species. If listed as so, the cats could be hunted.

The proposal was one of several dozen included in a spring vote on hunting and fishing issues held by the Wisconsin Conservation Congress. The results, only advisory, get forwarded to the state Natural Resources Board.

Statewide results were expected Tuesday.

La Crosse firefighter Mark Smith, 48, helped lead the cat-hunting proposal. He wants Wisconsin to declare free-roaming wild cats an unprotected species, just like skunks or gophers. Anyone with a small-game license could shoot the cats at will.

Yeah, and the first time someone accidentally shoots and kills 'Fluffy' let the lawsuits begin--no thanks.

Now if unborn children or disabled humans were roaming around Wisconsin, then it'd be OK to hunt them.

Domestic and feral cats kill millions of song birds every year.

Less cats,.....less cat ladies. More birds.

"Shoot my cats and I'll kill your children. Deal?"

Yeah, that's not psychotic at all.

It seems the simple minded cat fanatics can't understand logic. This isn't about shooting your poor, sweet little kitty cat. This is about controlling a population of predators that don't belong in the wild. They are FERAL animals that got lose or were abandoned, or are one or more generations of animals that were never in a domestic situation.

Understand the difference, or do you want to keep threatening to kill other human beings who actually understand the situation at hand?

Pet house cats and feral cats are like 2 different species. Feral cats are almost impossible to tame if they have been born in the wild with a wild mother. The minute their eyes are open their wild mother teaches them to fear humans. If you can get them before their eyes are open you might be able to tame them.

I would sure hate to see Fluffy get shot. If you care about your cat, keep it inside. Outside cats live short violent lives.
