Sneaky Sea Lions Feast On Fish At Dam's Fish Ladders

BONNEVILLE DAM, Ore. -- Sea lions are feasting on fish at the Bonneville Dam, and engineers are looking for ways to drive away the protected animals.

About 30 sea lions surround the dam's spillways, gorging on any fish that come by. But that reportedly has minor impact on the fish runs.

The problem is that at least two have figured out how to enter the fish ladders.

"It's pretty amazing that they've managed to get all the way into the locks," fisherman Tom Wood told KOIN News 6.

"They can take out some research equipment that they have in there. They could get stuck. They could cause all kinds of problems. It's just not designed for 400- to 600-pound animals," Robert Stansell of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said. "It's just not a good idea to have a sea lion in the fishway."

Sea lions are federally protected from harm. So the Army Corps of Engineers will try scare tactics, including guns that shoot fireworks. The efforts start this week.

You see a fish ladder with the river spilling over it. A sea lion sees a sushi conveyor belt.

Hey we have a major pestilence here in Florida besides half the third world it is the west Indies Manatee which denudes the bay bottoms at the blessing of the granola munchers.

the answer is simple just announce seal meat cures baldness and impotence that should spell doom for them in a short manner.

Landfills are another good hunting area for eagles... Come on out this way for some Bald Eagles...they love to fish in the borrow pits, and take out the seagulls for variety.

I can't vouch for seal meat, but it is well accepted fact that manatee is both delicious and removes fat deposits found in human females.

Trust the nice government man in the white lab coat.

For the sake of the manatee, and the bureaucrats whose jobs depend on the manatee, let us all pray that this data never reaches America's women. Otherwise the manatee will be gone in a matter of months. ;-)

IMO, they shouldn't just shoot this sea lion or dispatch him quickly.
They should capture him, torture him, make an example of him to the other sea lions, then kill him.

All right-t-t-t-t, I was jus-s-s-s-t kidding. Really.

Eat the seals. Again, it works for the Inuit.

After eating all of those salmon the seals will be pretty toxic.
