David Horowitz, a nationally known author, lecturer, civil rights activist and outspoken opponent of censorship, will be in Hawaii this month to speak to several groups, including the University of Hawaii and the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii.
In addition to presentations at 7 p.m. on Wed., April 20, 2005, in the University of Hawaii Manoa Art Auditorium, and by video conference to the students at the Universitys Hilo campus at 1:30 p.m., Horowitz will meet with state lawmakers and Gov. Linda Lingle.
His topic: You can't get a complete education if you are only getting half the story on campus leftism, the war on terror and the Academic Bill of Rights.

I would like to attend the Hilo session. I wonder if you have to be a student to attend.
"I AM a former anti-war activist who helped to organize the first campus demonstration against the war in Vietnam at the University of California, Berkeley in 1962.
I appeal to all those young people who participated in "anti-war" demonstrations on 150 college campuses this week, to think again and not to join an "anti-war" effort against Americas coming battle with international terrorism."

Forgive me if I don't feel sorry for
"conservative commentator David Horowitz"
Where was he in 1969 when I returned home and
encountered the anti war crowds in downtown Chicago?
I dont think its a matter of pitty, throwing pies in the faces of people because you dissagree with them is just plain stupid.
DH is reminds me of an ex-smoker or someone that's caught religion real bad. He's not my cup of tea for that reason but I understand the zealotry. Has he ever apologized to Vietnam war veterans at all?
This is great, David can get a little beach time as well as exposing UH.
horowitz needs some conservatives in the audience to video tape his presentation.
then if some one pies him, there will be a record.
ping
gracias, senor!
i bookmarked it for future reading and reference.
Are the Honolulu Advertiser, Star-Bulletin, and University of Hawaii professors going to announce it or are they going to suppress that information so they can maintain the myth that they are the smartest people on the Island -- if not the planet?
Re: Horowitz
I really respect you both and always read your posts with pleasure. I understand your resentment; if Horowitz is guilty so am I. I was not there for you either and was a radical like Horowitz, wringing my hands over the Vietnamese instead of our own troops.
I would like to take this opportunity to apologize. I was wrong. And I believe Horowitz would be big enough to apologize too. I can't change the past, but I can support the troops now, counter protesting the anti-war rabble, sending care packages, stand up for conservative principles and vote conservative.
Thank You
I am sure he appreciates what you've said here.
Those of us who didn't welcome our Vets as heroes can never say or do enough.
But it is sincere.
Have a good night. It's a cold one in NY tonight.
FWIW, I think that Kerry stirred up a lot of feelings and what he did was worse. It's like being betrayed by a family member rather than a stranger imho.
There's more credibility if one has come over from the other side. That is indicative of a person who can mature in his views and not stay with one unvarying mindset all one's life. I'm an effective Republican not because I'm the most conservative person in any group; I'm effective because I'm the most radical person in any group.
That's what the left/liberals have no defense against. They want to stereotype the opposition as rigid, close-minded conservative bigots, etc., but if you're just an independent mind, there is no defense against one. The liberal left won't come to grips with the realization that they are the Establishment types they reviled as young, idealistic people. But because they haven't changed but congealed in their thinking without ever questioning them again, they still think of themselves as these adventurous, idealistic rebels instead of as they now are -- bloated, self-serving bureaucratic worms fighting off the agents of change and progress. That's what today's liberals have become.
Meanwhile, Horowitz stays mentally alive and on the cutting edge.
I can understand. The man stood on his war record as if he were proud of it, and yet he was a yellow dog traitor when he returned from his 4 months tour of duty and branded his brothers in arms "genghis khans". I despise him for that, the hypocrisy of Kerry is galling. He is a Janus faced rat-(blank) (being a lady I won't say)who doesn't know the meaning of loyalty.
Gee, can you tell I don't like Kerry?
There are numerous illustrations of former members of a seemingly impenetrable, hidebound political/ideological movement eventually seeing the light.
To take just two examples:
Who served as the most damning and articulate American spokesperson for the anti-communist, pro-freedom, pan-Atlantic alliance during the Cold War?
It was Whittaker Chambers, a man that lay at the very heart of the USSR's attempt to diplomatically cripple the United States.
Who is the single most effective symbol of the strides made by the pro-life movement, and the utter intellectual bankruptcy of the extreme feminist position with regard to the issue of abortion?
It is none other than Norma McCorvey, the pseudonymous Roe.
My point is, the only way that we're going to be able to defeat the left is by turning their twisted ideological constructs back on them.
I can't even begin to describe how infuriated the mind-numbed, anti-capitalist robots are whenever I-in league with other sympathetic Protest Warriors, FReepers, and Republicans-show up to crash one of their anti-American hate o'poloozas.
They can't stand the fact that there are actually people who would appropriate some of their tactics in order to espouse a genuinely worthwhile cause, in the spirit of patriotism not the nihilistic fantasy of Marxist Utopianism.
Whoever is willing to join us-especially former fellow travelers-should be embraced with open arms.
Especially considering some of the less than stellar credentials of certain high-profile individuals who try to pass themselves off as conservatives.
If it weren't for former leftists, the contemporary conservative movement would not exist.
-good times, G.J.P. (Jr.)
