Taiwan gains supersonic missiles

TAIWAN plans to mass produce supersonic anti-ship missiles to beef up the island's defence capabilities against China, following successful test firings of the weaponry, a report said yesterday.
The Defence Ministry next year would set aside a budget for mass production of the Hsiung Feng III missile, which is expected to make its debut during the 2006 "Han Kuang 22" exercise, the Chinese-language China Times said.
Given its speed and capability of flying at low altitude, the missile would be difficult to intercept, it said.
The Hsiung Feng III has a range of up to 150km.
Once equipped, the island will be one of the few countries in the world to be armed with supersonic anti-ship missiles.

Taiwan will definently need these. I hope they put them on their Kidd class destroyers and all their other ships. I wish our own Navy would look into missiles like these. If we can't defend against the Sunburn then we should have offensive missiles that match or or make it obsolete.
I don't know, I don't know how ANYTHING can stop the gigantic, slow-moving, slab-sided, visible on radar from several galaxies away, container ships full of PRC troops that people were soiling their undies in fear of on a thread this morning.

These are not hunter killers. They are area denial weapons that can be placed in the way of PLA invasion routes. I think the Taiwanese can come up with a way to make them unmanned and therefore indefinite obstacles to CHICOM plans.
The real problem is deciding whether to publicize the capability and therefore make it liable to counter measures, but also make the likelihood of invasion lower, or keep them secret and invite an invasion that may be defeated.

I've never seen any evidence that the PRC has any sort of credible or experienced mine-removal capability at all, and it's ALWAYS a painstaking, time-consuming process.
