An urgent request has been sent to PM Ariel Sharon to bring to the attention of US President Bush the presence of anti-Semitic material in the new Palestinian Authority textbooks .
The new PA history books, among other things, present the infamous anti-Semitic forgery produced by Russian police The Protocols of the Elders of Zion as an accurate portrayal of the decision of the First Zionist Congress.
“There is continued incitement in the PA and it has even intensified, surpassing and solidifying the anti-Semitic line that has been recognized there in recent years,” Minister Natan Sharansky, who sent the information to Sharon, said.
Arutz-7’s Ruti Avraham reports that Sharansky, who is Minister of Diaspora, Society and Jerusalem, contacted the Prime Minister after he received copies of the newly published PA text book that presents, for the first time, the Protocols as “historic fact and the secret decision of the First Zionist Congress.”
According to Sharansky, nowhere in the PA History book does it mention that the Protocols are in fact a forgery. “The exact opposite, the matter is presented in the introduction regarding the First Zionist Congress in Basle [Switzerland], which took place in 1897, and the book goes on to claim that the Protocols of the Elders of Zion are the decisions of that Congress.”
The book in question is a 10th grade History book called, “History of Modern and Contemporary World, Grade 10 (2004). The section cited by Minister Sharansky appears on page 63 of the book, which is already in use in PA schools.
“The presentation of the Protocols in a false manner is particularly severe due to the fact that it has seen renewed popularity, with new editions of the book widely printed in Syria and Egypt and available in book stores and on the internet throughout the Muslim world in recent months,” Sharansky said.
Minister Sharansky’s urgent communiqué to Prime Minister Sharon came after he received the translations of the textbooks from the Center for Monitoring the Impact of Peace (CMIP), an organization that seeks to identify what is being taught in schools with regard to recognition and acceptance of the “other”. CMIP has produced four reports on school books in the Palestinian Authority and will finish a report on textbooks for grades 5 and 6 shortly. According to the reports, in more than 160 school books produced by the PA, Israel is never mentioned as a sovereign state and maps appearing in the books do not include the State of Israel.
“There is no doubt that this information is demonstrative of the fact that the Palestinian leadership is not demonstrating the necessary willingness to end incitement and change the threatening tone between our nations,” Sharansky wrote to PM Sharon. “More than that, there is an intensifying of the incitement that seeks to raise the level of anti-Semitism past that which has been present for years.”
“Real progress in the peace process is not possible while incitement continues to be spread through text books, especially when it is intensified in the new books just introduced into the system. It is important that our friend President Bush, who in my last meeting with him expressed particular interest in everything connected to education in the PA, receive this information during your current meeting.”
No mention of the anti-Semitic textbooks was made during the press conference following the Bush-Sharon meeting today. Sharansky hopes, though, that the issue, which has in the past outraged the US Congress and resulted in legislation limiting funding to the PA, will convince Bush that the PA is not living up to its promises.

Whew! For a moment there, I thought that meant "new Pennsylvania textbooks."
And, actually, I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.
Maybe Dr. Abbas will bring GWB a copy next month, if Prince Abdullah doesn't bring one to the ranch first.
There is no such thing as a "Palestinian." All there are, are various people, most of them Muslim, who live in Jordan or in what used to be part of Jordan, along with a few in what used to be part of Egypt. They are the Nazified descendents of a bunch of dupes, or worse, who, upon hearing Radical Arab Nationalist radio broadcasts forecasting doom for them should they remain, in 1947 and 48, left Israel like idiots. In addition to them, there are also plain old Arabs who have no background in Israel, who know that by labeling themselves "Palestinian," they can get money and arms from nation states who hate Israel, the US and the West.
There ARE Palestinian, about 50,000 in 1947, and a slight majority of them were Christian. But your general point is still largely correct.
And look at what has happened to the "Palestinian" Christians... most have left due to the continuous harassmant and worse from their other "Palestinian" brothers. It's not the Israeli's that have forced them out of their homes but rather the Arabs who want the land Juden-Christian Frei. Look at what has happened in Bethleham and especially to the Churches there that had become armed fortresses of the Muslim Palis.
In all truth, the Israelis have been abominable to the Christians, making no distinction between Christians and Islamofascists, treating every Palestinian Christian as a suspected terrorist, and deliberately acting to cause bitterness between Christian and Muslim, such as by steering bell minarettes to be right next door to churches, so that the Christian worship is interrupted.
While I 100% take the Jewish side in this Palestinian Terror horror, I have to concede that the Jews would have a much better standing among Catholics, of Europe and America, if they didn't cause so many Catholics to be outraged at the way the Christian Palestinians are treated.
Please document this strong condemnation of Israeli conduct towards Christians which totally misrepresent the reality of Israeli Christian relations. Are you referring to such leading light Christian Palestinians such as Hanan Ashrawi and Suha Arafat?
And then explain why the Christian population in Israel is increasing and the Christian population in the PA governed territories is dramatically declining (less than 2%). That fact alone strongly supports that Israel treats Christians well and Muslims don't.

No. I'm referring to freinds' and relatives' religious pilgrimages to holy sites, to a former parish priest who has been restationed in the West Bank and to a cousin who worked a year as an audiologist in the West Bank (she's now in Iraq).
Perhaps they treat Zionist Baptists who stay in Tel Aviv well, but they treat the Catholics who visit their own religion's holy sites (which are mostly in the West Bank) like the only conceivable interest they could have in the West Bank is exchanging phone numbers with suicide bombers.
