A parent from a local jr. high in Houston told the Superintendent that this book was pornography and that she demanded that all copies be confiscated from the school district libraries.

I sure feel alot safer now knowing that there are people out there getting rid of "pornographic material". Maybe they should pull the plug on the internet next.

My kids will never have Judy Blume books in our house. I read them as a kid and thought they were lame and gross--even then. Besides, they'll be too busy reading Beowulf and the Aeneid by the time they're 8 anyway...

I read the book in 6th or 7th grade. I would prefer my children did not read it. (there are many things I read and saw that I am strict about) BUT, I will be the one to control that for my own children.

I read "Forever" (along with Blume's other unspeakable books) in junior high and high school, behind my mother's back. "Forever," "Deenie," and "Wifey" are not appropriate for teenagers.

According to the American Library Association, it is the eighth "most frequently challenged" book.

The ALA is really just out for the best interest of the children, this is why the ALA links young teenagers to important sites that teach them how to do safe rimming and teaches the pros and cons of having sex with farm animals. The ALA knows what is best for your children.

You have to be kidding me. Have you ever read a Judy Bloom book? Pornographic is a perfect word for her garbage.

I read one of her books in the 8th grade and got the nastiest shock of my life, and it was the one reason I pre-read anything that came into my house while teaching my kids. I would not let any kid under my supervision touch her filth, nor should it be in the school library, at least not the "kids" book I read.

On a side note, (having never read this book) since it deals with a girl thinking she's ready to lose her virginity and then ends up being not so sure she should do so, could it not be used as a vehicle for teaching kids they should wait? I could be completely wrong here, but like I said, I never read the book to begin with.

Judy Bloom

When I attended graduate school at Penn State ('74~'76), I knew a girl named "Judy Blume" who looked nearly identical to this picture of the author.
However, Blume's biography doesn't match, so I guess that the "Judy Blume" I knew must've been a different person.
But they sure do look the same. (odd coincidence!!!)
