DRUDGE: Publisher Fight Over 'Hillary In The Raw'
Drudge Report ^ | SUN APRIL 10, 2005 | Matt Drudge

Posted on 04/10/2005 5:32:04 PM PDT by West Coast Conservative

**Exclusive**

A book battle has broken out on Publisher's Row over the ultimate Hillary-attack!

The project being billed as "Hillary in the Raw", like you've never seen her before, is set to drop in September by liberal Ed Klein, former NYT MAGAZINE editor, VANITY FAIR, PARADE contributor and author of multiple works on the Kennedys.

"The revelations in it should sink her candidacy," a source close to Klein warns the DRUDGE REPORT.

MORE

Last week, Clinton stalwart Ann Lewis fired off an email to supporters warning of the 'Swift Boat' tactics coming against the former first lady turned senator.

Now the coming sales pitch for ' THE TRUTH ABOUT HILLARY What She Knew, When She Knew It, and How Far She’ll Go to Become President' reads: 'Just as the swift boat veterans convinced millions of voters that John Kerry lacked the character to be president, Klein’s book will influence everyone who is sizing up the character of Hillary Clinton...

'Despite more than a dozen years in the national spotlight and more than a dozen unauthorized books about her, she has managed to keep many secrets from the public -- especially about her turbulent marriage and its impact on her career. There have been plenty of rumors about what Hillary and Bill Clinton did behind closed doors, but never a definitive book that exposes the truth. Bestselling author Edward Klein draws on rare access to inside sources to reveal what Hillary knew and when she knew it during her years as first lady. Klein’s book, embargoed until publication, will break news about the choices and calculations she has made over the years.'

MORE

A fight has developed over the book inside the giant publishing house PENGUIN, sources tell DRUDGE.

A publishing source attending the PENGUIN sales conference last week in Connecticut describes high emotions surrounding the coming publication of 'THE TRUTH ABOUT HILLARY.'

There has been a bitter and hostile reaction to the book among top PENGUIN editors -- editors who last year published John Kerry's official campaign book.

One top Hillary source claims the book is nothing more than "sex and trash" from a desperate author.

She could be caught nekkid with a donkey and spin it away in time for 2008

Yep. You got that right. In all honesty however, that fact is more a credit to A)her allies in the MSM & B)the severely limited attention span and memory of the average voter than it is to her [people] skills.

In reality, she has basically no people skills. If she were a Pub she'd end up in the media meat grinder with her mouth & abrasive, snotty, superior attitude.

I hope this is as promising as it sounds.

Why would one liberal (Klein) do such a thing to another (hillary)?

Book Her. A new book is being written about the life of Hillary Rodham Clinton by author and biographer Edward Klein, a former reporter for the New York Times. Klein has written extensively on the Kennedys, including All Too Human: The Love Story of Jack and Jackie', Just Jackie: Her Private Years; Farewell Jackie: A Portrait of Her Final Days; and The Kennedy Curse: Why Tragedy Has Haunted America's First Family for 150 Years. According to sources, Klein's new book will not portray Hillary in the most flattering light: "He doesn't care for the Clintons, and he is digging up some new dirt on them," said one insider. Readers should expect chapters on Hillary's disgraced Rose Law Firm partner Web Hubbell, the Vince Foster suicide, and her mysterious association with sitcom savant Susan Thomases. Klein's book will be published next fall by Sentinel, an imprint of the Penguin Group.

In reality, she has basically no people skills.

She doesn't need any. She's a celebrity.

She'll get all the Dem *and* Green votes in 2008. Not to mention a few million 'Oprah Moderates'.

It's going to take more than a book to stop that.

Most of the Libs I talk with don't have a clue as to Hillary's nasty side. That sort of thing isn't spoon-fed to them by the MSM. I have a hunch this book concerns the petty, vindictive, egotistical Hillary -- the one we all know very well, but which seldom has been examined in the media. If that's the case, those who believe she is the most valiant thing since Joan of Arc are going to have a little surprise coming.

Edward Klein is a well-known editor, writer, and lecturer with a distinguished career in American journalism.

As editor-in-chief of The New York Times Magazine for eleven years, 1977 to 1988, Mr. Klein led this flagship publication of the Sunday Times to new heights of public interest and editorial excellence. During his editorship, The New York Times Magazine won the first Pulitzer Prize in its history.

In 1989, Mr. Klein became a Contributing Editor of Vanity Fair. Among his many well-received articles are stories on Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and on Aristotle Onassis's granddaughter, Athina Onassis Roussel.

In addition, Klein has written a number of cover stories for Parade, the Sunday magazine with a readership of 83 million, on such important figures as Jesse Jackson, Barbara Bush, and former President Ronald Reagan. For the past several years, he has written a weekly column for Parade called "Walter Scott's Personality Parade".

Klein began his career in journalism as a copy boy for the New York Daily News while attending Columbia University, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree. He earned a master's degree from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and was awarded a traveling fellowship to Japan. He learned to speak Japanese with some fluency as a foreign correspondent in Asia for United Press International. Upon his return to New York, Klein joined Newsweek, where he became Foreign Editor and then Assistant Managing Editor with Jurisdiction over foreign and military affairs.

Klein's most recent nonfiction work includes Just Jackie: Her Private Years and All Too Human: The Love Story of Jack and Jackie Kennedy, which was published in the fall of 1996 and became a major bestseller. Mr. Klein is also a novelist. He is the co-author of If Israel Lost the War and the author of The Parachutists, which was published in hardcover by Doubleday and in paperback by Ballantine.

The father of two grown children, Edward Klein is married to Dolores Barrett, a well-known public relations executive.

HEY, is this the good'ol USA or Canada!! We are becoming more and more like a communist country thanks to all the liberal powerful stinkin' RAT establishments. This really doesn't surprise me one bit though...this book will NOT see the light in Sept. The evil rats and their vomit hordes will do all in their satanic power to protect their evil goddess!! WE WON'T SEE THE BOOK, it'll be swept under the rug, or it'll be used to bring sympathy to the WITCH! OR, on second thought, maybe just maybe this could be a way of cleaning the slate clean before the presidential elections for the BEAST. If so, this is a brilliant move by the rats by bring anything scandalous to the forefront now before the election rolls around,... with time all will be forgotten, remember the America folk are notorious for getting amnesia....SMART, VERY SMART!!

lotsa oprah 'bots.

amazing and amusing, many of the 'bots have college degrees with feminist coursework.

they're sitting at home, depending on a male income, while bitching about how difficult life is for women in america!

i talked to one of these while she was loading her horse from her suv and trailer at the saquaro national park east of tucson.

The same type of people that voted for her for the U.S. Senate will vote for her for president, no matter what anyone else says about her.

It makes me sick.

Have you seen the new commercial for TIAA-CREF saying something like "we salute all those who work for the greater good"? Doesn't sound like much if you haven't seen it, maybe. Kinda reminds me of the same thing. Has anyone else seen this and thought the same thing?

Then again, maybe I need to go to the kitchen and get some tin foil. : )

I kind of disagree with that. If this little tome does indeed rake some new muck, Hillary could just decide to "retire to care for Bill," lest her continued presence in the limelight reveal something even more sinister. I actually could see that happening.
