DRUDGE: Publisher Fight Over 'Hillary In The Raw'
Drudge Report ^ | SUN APRIL 10, 2005 | Matt Drudge

Posted on 04/10/2005 5:32:04 PM PDT by West Coast Conservative

**Exclusive**

A book battle has broken out on Publisher's Row over the ultimate Hillary-attack!

The project being billed as "Hillary in the Raw", like you've never seen her before, is set to drop in September by liberal Ed Klein, former NYT MAGAZINE editor, VANITY FAIR, PARADE contributor and author of multiple works on the Kennedys.

"The revelations in it should sink her candidacy," a source close to Klein warns the DRUDGE REPORT.

MORE

Last week, Clinton stalwart Ann Lewis fired off an email to supporters warning of the 'Swift Boat' tactics coming against the former first lady turned senator.

Now the coming sales pitch for ' THE TRUTH ABOUT HILLARY What She Knew, When She Knew It, and How Far She’ll Go to Become President' reads: 'Just as the swift boat veterans convinced millions of voters that John Kerry lacked the character to be president, Klein’s book will influence everyone who is sizing up the character of Hillary Clinton...

'Despite more than a dozen years in the national spotlight and more than a dozen unauthorized books about her, she has managed to keep many secrets from the public -- especially about her turbulent marriage and its impact on her career. There have been plenty of rumors about what Hillary and Bill Clinton did behind closed doors, but never a definitive book that exposes the truth. Bestselling author Edward Klein draws on rare access to inside sources to reveal what Hillary knew and when she knew it during her years as first lady. Klein’s book, embargoed until publication, will break news about the choices and calculations she has made over the years.'

MORE

A fight has developed over the book inside the giant publishing house PENGUIN, sources tell DRUDGE.

A publishing source attending the PENGUIN sales conference last week in Connecticut describes high emotions surrounding the coming publication of 'THE TRUTH ABOUT HILLARY.'

There has been a bitter and hostile reaction to the book among top PENGUIN editors -- editors who last year published John Kerry's official campaign book.

One top Hillary source claims the book is nothing more than "sex and trash" from a desperate author.

You guys may all be right anyway, but you sound so negative it makes me wonder if you even talk to/write to/email thousands of people YOURSELVES during election campaigns, or at least, have confidence when you do it. I hope I'm wrong, but that's my impression.

You would be wondering WAY wrong, FRiend. I volunteered in Jacksonville, FL with the Mighty Texas Strike Force this campaign season on my own dime to help re-elect President Bush. So, it's far beyond emailing.

This Hillary book should be taken with large amounts of caution. If we bite the bait, don't forget the bait may be attached to a large hook. Then we all lose.

Don't worry. WE will NEVER give in. But, you have to also be realistic about the "swing" voters. They have no loyalty, coupled with short memories and severe gullibility. The more the HildaBeast and her allies shovel out, they faster they will chow down.

That said, the Dems and Hil are certainly beatable. IF the Pubs don't go wobbly when the MSM calls them mean to women (not a lotta hope there I am afraid). And IF we come up with a good candidate. Core values, NOT pandering will win (going "moderate" ain't gonna win).

Now, that said, illegal aliens must be dealt with or that will be the wedge issue that will bite the Pubs in a very big way. Hil knows this and is already pandering to the issue. I really believe this this has a very good chance of being the one, killer issue.

Yes, the "SwiftVet tactics" should work nicely. Hillary cannot hide forever.

Who says I'm negative? We'll beat that witch, but she'll have plenty of help from the MSM and publishing houses. The OBJECT here is to make any bad news for Hillary old news. That doesn't mean it will work, nor does it mean she'll win.

The first woman president will be a conservative, not a feminazi like Hitlery.

Well, then I'd expect the book to get as much coverage as Kitty Kelley's trash books against the Reagans and Bushes.

Personally, I have no more stomach for salacious dirt on the Clintons than I do for the Reagans and Bushes. There's enough in her public positions to vote against her without decending into the gutter.

I had always thought that the fact that Hillary had canceled her planned tour of hospitals for her health care reform in LA and taken sudden flight towards DC implied that she was clear of the Foster "suicide" later that day.

However, a comment about how Bill Clinton "stole the limelight" at the pope's funeral got me thinking. What if Hillary somehow *planned* to ditch her media entourage at the exact perfect moment in time when it would shield her from adverse publicity in the Foster "suicide"? If she were in a planned tour for publicity reasons, the way to do this would be to suddenly schedule a trip to location A, have all the reporters do the same on commercial flights, and then change the plan in the middle of the flight and land in location B, which is what in fact she did (location B in this case being Little Rock, AR). She ditched successfully ditched the press for several days at the precise moment in time that Foster, her alleged former lover, committed "suicide." Not only was she never interrogated by the press on it, she was never even interrogated by the *police* about it. (In fact, she stayed with her mother for several days out of sight of the local press in LR, only to emerge to join the motorcade to the Foster funeral with Bill at the end of the week... all of Foster's other Rose Law associates were interviewed and published in the local paper, except for Hillary.) What are the chances of this happening in real life? Close to zero, I would wager. Does taking off in a hastily scheduled air flight and then changing the destination while in midair, having the fortuitious side-effect of avoiding a full blown scandal and police interrogation at the original landing site constitute prima facie evidence of premeditation should the "suicide" be revisited and investigated as a homicide? I certainly think it's worth considering, and investigating, even if the DC Park Police, the FBI, and the media don't. I think Hillary has a dark side that the media hasn't even begun to scratch the surface of...

This title isn't a pleasant introduction when one has just finished dinner. ;-)

Hillary is not the issue.

The activist Dem base wants to win. They would sacrifice anything to do so. They believe they did just that in the last election.

There will be two warring factions. Those that covet power enough to pretend moderation, and those that covet unabashed Liberalism believing that will bring power.

Hillary's future as a nominee is dependant on her ability to convince the base she WILL win. She hasn't won that argument yet. They'll ditch someone with the name Clinton in a heartbeat if they believe that person can bring back the power they crave to implement liberalism.

The more sane members still in the Dem party are a minority voice. Unless they can pull together in a strong voice, they are irelevant to who will be the next nominee in '08.

Any revelation in this book would have to be truly evil, documented in court and signed by a 100 witnesses to ruin her four years away from an election. Swing voters will forget anything "scintillating" this far out. Infact, if I were Hill I'd get my skeletons out of the way well before a presidential election.

It needs to be understood the activists in the Dem party don't care a whit if their nominee is someone of good character. This is not a Republican primary. They could document that she bought every single vote making her Senator, and they'd still vote for her whereas proven scandel would likely end a Republican.

I have strong doubts this book will harm her.

Every time something "bad" happens to Hillary, her numbers jump up. First, there are charges of financial chicanery, she gets off, and her approval rating goes up. The Lewinsky scandal hit and instead of being a chump for being married to him, she sticks with him and personal numbers improve. He gets sick, her acceptability increases. No matter what, any attention she gets decreases the public resistance to her. She's a real live manifestation of the power of incrementalism. Inch by inch, all news, good and bad, boosts her numbers until the day---VOILA! She's acceptable to the sheeple who've forgotten why they didn't like her to begin with and she's President. This is Animal Farm Redux.

Yes, that says it all, but no one is going to remember. It's like the German existentialist play when the woman returns to her hometown and gives everybody new shoes. Hillary will give us new shoes, and we'll ignore the million things she's taking away from us.

There are some things of which I remain willfully ignorant.
