Day Nine and illegal alien apprehensions are still way down. Locally, traffic has shifted away from the Naco Line, moving eastwards towards Douglas and westward to the Huachuca Mountains and beyond to the San Rafael Valley. There are also reports of more traffic heading towards Nogales and the Tohono Oodham reservation.
There were a couple of good sized groups passing through the Huachucas overnight. Some were nabbed by the Border Patrol immediately after detection, with stragglers appearing throughout the day. Most were reportedly from Michoacan, west of Mexico City. One alien was seen to toss a cell phone into the brush and it was later recovered; the call history may be interesting. The last three stragglers made it back to the highway about lunchtime and were spotted, reported, and picked up by the Border Patrol. One of the agents told us later that these three were Guatamalan.
The morning was bizarre. Before I arrived on site, I found two young females (16-20 years old) frantically trying to flag down any ride they could find. Their coyote had abandoned them in the middle of the night and in the middle of nowhere. I called it in and waited about 200 yards away. By luck there was a deputy sheriff and a border patrol unit close by and they responded within a couple of minutes. The girls were tired, cold, hungry, dehydrated and terrified. I wanted that coyotes hide.
The morning went from bizarre to unreal within an hour. Chris Simcox and I were conferring on the days outposts when our scanners picked up message traffic on a group of 20+ illegals all of them young females spotted 16 miles north of the border. My guess is that it took them at least two days (possibly three) to reach that point, as the trails do not run in a straight line and cannot be traveled openly. Finding that many women in one group with no men is unheard of. The Border Patrol did a thorough ground/air search of the surrounding area and found no sign of anyone bearing a Y-chromosome. No other details available at this time.
There was a small brushfire of undetermined origin in the upper end of Hunter Canyon late this afternoon, so the night shift may see some more traffic later tonight.
Tomorrow could be interesting, so watch this space.
Thanks to you, jackelopebreeder, idratherbpainting and all the Minute Men and Minute Women. This has strictly been an eye opener experience for all us bystanders. Just to think that our government has left these good people, Americans, prey for the illegals is unreal.
>>Sounds like the cell phones are key to the crossings......interesting.<<
It's illegal to listen in to the calls today. You can't buy scanners with the frequencies anymore.
So, they are more effective for illegal communications than hand held radios, by design.
Cut the green wire..........really.
I was a bit cynical when I went, but I listened to everything without saying anything, I decided they are trying to do it right, and work together with with law enforcement. Some of us won't be going into the field, due to the no guns policy, but will help with some of the organizing, and training, and working radios as time allows.
Why the no guns policy ?
Before you turn it in, may I suggest a few lengthy calls to . . . ohhhh . . . I don't know . . . Zimbabwe maybe?
Thank you for the great report. Thank you to all the Minutemen (and women)!
If that is how they want to do it thats ok with me, but I won't be going into the field. There were several of us at the meeting who always carry, we all said we would help with radios, or whatever needs done at the base.

Some questions and ideas for you to think about.
What do you think would happen if a popular football or other sports star was to start off the project by donating 5 thousand or 5 million dollars to build fences on private property that adjoins the border?
Then a few more sport stars each throw in a couple of thousand or million (grin) of their own money while asking all "True Americans" to send just one hours wages to the FENCE FUND?
Do you think that the politicians would be able to stop this from growing out of control and the voters demanding that the Feds "fence our border lands"?
Do you think the politicians would listen or ignore a million calls a day to their offices?
Never underestimate what the American people can do when they decide they want to do it.
While I'm at it, we could start a "Name and Shame List" of companies that hire illegals. Name the banks that loan money to a tax number when the illegal doesn't have a phony Social Security number. Name the mortgage companies that favor home loans to illegals, using our money for their downpayment.
If you have ideas or questions, throw them in the pot here. I'm sure there's FReeper who can answer most of the questions or critique your ideas.
Do you have any ideas on how to get this started?
We need to keep the fire burning while the media is watching and reporting.
Good luck with the effort.......
"The girls were tired, cold, hungry, dehydrated and terrified. I wanted that coyotes hide."
It's good to care about endangered ladies. At the same time, the Minutemen are disrupting the coyotes' routine. The coyotes are losing face. People will be less willing to pay them much.
It seems to me that the Minutemen are acting in combat terms like a reserve. You are more mobile than the border patrols' placements, which appear to be too rigid. So it's been easy for coyotes to overwhelm Arizona. That's all changing now.
Great work! FReegards....
I know Chris Simcox has come over there and trained a few people. You NEED to get him over there again to train your group before you do this. You NEED to adopt the same S.O.P. he's been using and that the Minuteman Project is now using.
And, under no circumstances should you guys try this with a no gun policy. The presence of the firearms is a key element to the success of the effort. You will not only be without protection, but you will further endanger yourselves because the border crossers and violent drug smugglers and human traffickers will know that you are not armed. You will not be so much a deterrent but instead you will be targets. In addition, an unarmed patrol will not draw the media in like you need to.
Whomever it was that came up with and promoted the no gun policy should be removed from the group. He's dangerous and does not know what he's doing.
This might happen. Stay tuned.
Last night in the same location where I said the van came in and picked up a load and then nearly ran down some Minuteman another 3 vans showed up. Border Patrol responded immediately and the load vehicle drivers bailed into the woods. The third vehicle was chased by Border Patrol and stopped about a mile up the road. All of this happened within a mile of my house.
One of my friends, a Minuteman Project volunteer, heard this all on the scanner. Her husband, another volunteer, headed out to warn the volunteers around that area that they should expect a group of 30-50 angry border intruders who lost their rides.
This was to the SW of my house. Continuing to listen on the scanner it was determined that most of the group had made it past the MMP volunteers and into the wash they love to use. How they did this, I don't know. We have volunteers up and down that highway they have to cross. But somehow they found a way. There's all kinds of culverts and washes and stuff under that highway. Maybe there was one we were not watching at the moment in the dark.
The group continued down the wash and the next report from the Border Patrol over the scanner said that they were stretched out in the field along the road about a quarter mile due east of my house where we have no observation posts. So, it sounded like my house was halfway surrounded - to the south and to the east. The group was then estimated at 50 by Border Patrol and 2 load vehicles were intercepted on the road where my friend was harassing the coyotes the day before. The group was headed that direction.
Next report came at about 11pm where a resident on that road heard pounding on his door. There were 3 border intruders on his porch who, in the course of their conversation, admitted that there was a group of 200 in the field nearby. That means there was a group of 200 desperate and angry criminal invaders in the field a quarter mile from my house.
I put the dog out and slept with one eye open. I heard nothing. I will check this morning to see how many the BP picked up and if there was any further incident. As I type, I can hear the BP helicopter flying overhead, likely looking for stragglers in the field. For some reason the helicopter never came up this way last night and spent its time further to the south, closer to the border.
The several of you who have half a brain need to call Chris Simcox and arrange a meeting. Maybe you can come over here on Saturday, volunteer as Minutemen, go through the orientation training, and then get more OJT as you patrol that night. Then you all go back to Yuma and start the real border watch group and let the guys who don't know what they're doing go find another hobby.
I have friends down there with them and wish this is one I could have made myself. They are doing patriotic work and it WILL make a difference.
Thank you, Jeff. That means a lot coming from you. Maybe you'll be able to come down for the next one. We could use the help.
God bless you guys...you are serving the country and doing it as volunteers on your own time and doing it in a very responsible and all American way as far as I am concerned.
Be careful...as you know, your success will likely invivte more attempts at infiltration, black balling, threats, and vitriol...but I know if you keep your hand on the plow in such a cause, that other civil, law abiding and concerned Americans who care about our borders and their entegrity will gravitate to the cause and example you have set...the ground you have broek...and I believe that God in Heaven will help you and sustain you in such an effort...but that's just my own faith and feeling.
