Middle East Mythology

Tuesday the 2004 Arab Human Development Report was released by the UN Development Project. The report placed a large chunk of the blame for the Arab world's lack of economic progress and political freedom on Israel's creation in 1948 and US support for Israel's continued existence, as well as the US military presence in Iraq.

Hello. I'm new to FR, so I hope I've followed the correct protocols in posting this. The article is, in my opinion, a brilliant commentary of the state of the Middle East and of the current U.S. policy regarding Israel.

Israel has as much chance with the UN as Terri Schindler-Shiavo had with Murderer Greer.

Welcome to FR.

Israel has been in existance for what 60 years?
The U.S. has been in Iraq for what two years?

The arabs haven't contributed to humanity or society for what 2000 years?

Thanks for the welcome!

It vexes me why we play host to and provide such generous support for an institution that seeks to usurp our national sovereignty. Ultimately the UN seeks to become a true global government, a purpose for which it was not created and has no right to assume.

This article should be required reading in the White House. For those who don't want to take the time to read the entire article, the Readers Digest version of Arab and European policy toward Israel is "Kill the Jews." (And stop reminding us about it.)

It would probably be considered spamming if I tried to thank everyone individually for their warm welcomes. Therefore, consider this a thank you to all welcoming FReepers!

Thanks Zero Sum. I have often thought of where the Arab world would be if they had worked with Israel in 1948, emulated the progressiveness of the early settlers and adopted the Israeli way of assimilating the 20th century. Today there would be huge numbers of Arabs in the ranks of Nobel prize winners, concert musicians, heart surgeons etc. Additionally the region would be peaceful with the sort of mutual growth unimaginable to us now.

Imagine Arab-Israeli production, control and marketing and research of the petroleum wealth of the region. The mutual benefit that could have happened is almost beyond imagination.

Instead, the region is symbolized by the suicide bomber.

"The report placed a large chunk of the blame for the Arab world's lack of economic progress and political freedom on Israel's creation in 1948 and US support for Israel's continued existence, as well as the US military presence in Iraq."

As many times as the UN uses this garbage you would think they don't even have to dust it off anymore.

Welcome to FR Zero Sum. If you don't think much of the U.N., and would like to see it's removal from the US then you are indeed in good company here.

Welcome to Free Republic.

It was the concerted pan-Arab attack on the economies of Western Europe in 1973, not Israel's acquisition of territory in 1967 that caused Europe to embrace the cause of the Palestinians. And it is the power that immigrant voters and activists wield against the European electorate and the threat of violence wielded by Arab terrorists that ensure that year in and year out regardless of the brutality of Arab rhetoric and violence, the Europeans remain faithful to the ideology of Israeli criminality and Palestinian victimhood.

I think this paragraph from the article sums it up nicely.

Beyond the destruction of the great library at Alexandria what have they ever contributed to civilization?

The so called science and learning that they claim credit for was stolen from the lands that they captured. As soon as the conquests stopped, islam sank back into the abyss of ignorance and poverty that we know of them today.

Israel and US should be declared islam free zones for the good of mankind.

Remember there are some odd Buchanites but they are few in
number. I came here because every time I would talk to a Radical in NYC they would demand to know my screen name.
They perceive this place as a Conservative temple of Doom.
I still do not know why they obsess over this site.

Yet it is great to be in a place where Israel is not a dirty
word.

Welcome aboard and thanks for the article.

What can you expect from people who are taught at their mother´s breast to hate Jews?

For the liberals who keep saying that terrorists are caused by poverty and hopelessness I say their fellow Arabs are screwing them. All that Arab money pumped into a small group of Arab bank accounts.

They want to get mad at someone, get mad at the royals and the dictators that have ripped off all the revenue from oil.
