DeLay's Backers Launch Offense
Washington Post ^ | April 10, 2005 | Mike Allen

Posted on 04/09/2005 7:56:45 PM PDT by FairOpinion

Officials working with DeLay said he is trying to lock in support by sowing the message that an attack on him is an attack on the conservative movement, and that taking him out would be the Democrats' first step toward regaining control of the House and Senate. These officials said they believe the attacks are part of a strategy by Democrats, aided by watchdog groups funded by liberals, to use the ethics process to try to regain power.

At the same time, DeLay is continuing his high-decibel comments -- including his warning last week about "a judiciary run amok" -- on the theory that he is going to remain himself and not bend to the opposition, friends say.

Tom Delay has been a good fighter for our side.

"But, I think he would better serve if he left congress and spent all of his time working those organizations that he runs."

What a moronic statement - the 'organization' that he runs it the House Republicans!!!

Of course he has to stay as majority leader to be effective. Of course.

We should ONLY suggest he resign if he truly did something wrong and of a serious enough nature that warranted his disgrace. He has not.

Moreover, watching this up close in Austin, TX, the attempt by a Democrat DA to go after the GOP fundraising organizations has been a witchhunt. The GOP had corporate donors who followed the rules (dividing funds between campaigns and other permissible activities), and the DA has been using very weak and phony cases and trying to 'try' his cases in the liberal (read Austin American Statesman) press, because HE DOESNT HAVE A REAL CASE, neither against DeLay nor against any associates.

"Also, instead of legislating he could spend time trying to get money into a conservative press and other tactics to minimize the dirty MSM."

That's not his job, that's *our* job. cancel your MSM newspaper subscription and get a "National Review" subscription. It doesnt take a resignation of a top conservative leader to do that!

"If he can't do that then no one can."

Huh?!? That makes no sense. DeLay is an 'inside' man, he's not been an articulate spokesman for conservatives on TV like, say a JC Watts has been. Delay is being "newtered" and so wont command respect outside of conservative circles.

That's okay, non-liberals hate Ted Kennedy, despite his manslaughter of a woman, marriages/affairs/divorces & involvement in a rape case, drug and alcohol abuse, and despite his bloated and overheated rhetoric. In the meantime, DeLay spends his own private time raising foster children. I think we should stand by him, no matter what the conservative-haters think of him.

Is there anything to the report that the Bush Admin is opposing DeLay?

"Is there anything to the report that the Bush Admin is opposing DeLay?"

NO. That is made up by the MSM.

Bush has to be careful what he says, and all he said, that he favors an "independent judiciary". Well, don't we all. That doesn't mean that he favors an imperial, tyrannical judiciary, nor does it mean, he objects to anything Tom DeLay is doing.

Good, that was worrisome. If we lose our morality we will lose all our power to do anything.

DeLay is the most dedicated conservative we have in a position of real power, so I suspect the Republicans will abandon him. That useless twit Frist has already attacked DeLay in public.

Frist will NEVER win the Republican Nomination for President because of this...If he retires from the Senate in 2006, we should get a Republican Senate leader who has guts...like John Corryn of Texas!

You got it, let Delay lead the charge for the Nuclear Option. The RATS will self destruct trying to take him out.

Thanks for the photo of my very favorite politican, Phil~!!!

Rep Tom Delay is my hero. Finally a politican who is real man.

From the article-->

""Keene said the leaders will show their solidarity by announcing this week that they are holding a tribute dinner for DeLay on May 12 at the Capital Hilton, complete with a film "summation of what Tom has done for conservatives." Keene said 1,000 people are expected, and tickets will be about $200.""
End of Quote.

I'd spend 200 dollars and more to attend that meeting. Maybe Rep Tom Delay could find a larger place for the diner and meeting and invite his grass roots supporters, like me and the rest of the Freepers who respect him and are supporting him.

God almighty, what will it take for the Republicans to go on the offensive and not stop until the jackals and their allies are utterly defeated?

Thanks for the ping for Tom Delay~!!!

He's the best, in my book. I'm sick of Demos and their dirty tricks. The GOP needs to fight for Delay. It's an outrage what's happening to him. Frist needs to mind his own business, or support Delay.

Delay worked very hard to try and save Terri. I was very upset with the MSM when they went after Delay, for his efforts to stop the murder of Terri. Nora O'Donnel of MSNBC, was one of the first people to go after Delay. I have no respect for her now. She travels with President Bush and is not a journalist, but a propogandist.

I totally agree, Saundra. I'd support Rep Tom Delay for President in 2008.

Thanks to PC93 for the update on Mae. It's about time we hear some good news.

I remember having such high hopes for Newt, and being so excited about his leadership. Then he caved like a sand castle when the tide comes in.

If the Republican leadership would only realize that the MSM is not a reflection of what the people think, maybe they wouldn't be so afraid to stand up for what's right.

I'm hoping that Delay will continue to stand firm, especially in the face of all these contrived, baseless attacks.
