Posted on 04/08/2005 4:04:23 PM PDT by StarCMC

My friends lib hubby (she's conservative) sent her a link to this site. Does anyone you there know where you can find dollar figures for this stuff? Is this website anywhere close to accurate? Thanks for any help - I plan to send her a link to this thread once a few responses are posted!

I agree, but unfortunately that won't hold water with this guy. Need some hard facts and figures.

Looks about right, war is expensive. Just recall the 87 billion supplimental that Kerry voted for, before he voted against it.

Total utter BS. More "books not bomb" and "It would be a good day if the military has to raise bake sales to fund itself" tripe. Obvious Socialist "IT"S FOR THE CHILRUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" dribble.

These dips wanna fund head start? CUTY SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICAID! These two boondoggles cost more than any war the US of A has ever fought.

I just saw one of those "Money for war, no money for schools" bumper stickers yesterday and had to groan. Yeah, our public education system is scraping the ground for pennies in the wake of No Child Left Behind.

Wrong question.

The real question is what would have been the cost of NOT getting rid of the Saddam regime?

The direct cost of the WTC attack was over $80 BILLION, and if you take into account the cost to the economy, it was much higher.

What if we didn't get rid of Saddam, and he did develop WMD and gave them to the terrorists? What would that have cost us?

Also, Libya admitted to having nuclear and biological chemical weapons development, which our intel services under estimated -- Kaddaffi gave that up, after seeing Saddam in his spider hole. What would have been the cost in terms of innocent US civilians dead, and the cost of rebuilding the US economy and infrastructure after some attacks with WMD?

The cost of Iraq war was a bargain, in terms of the benefit.

You can never just look at the cost of something without the benefit.

Ask your friends, how much is it worth to them to not be killed by terrorists?

I think the cost of Iraq war is somewhere around $100B. But there are close to 300 million people in the US, so that's a cost of about $300 per person.

Now -- it is worth $300 for people to NOT be killed, and NOT have their property and city/town destroyed by terrorists using WMD and ensuring a more peaceful, secure tomorrow?

I would think so.

It's a good question, and I'll be looking for any FReeper who has an answer. The Left inflates its figures (everybody does). But let's remember, the War on Terror is expensive, so don't trap yourself trying to deny it.

But try to think of this question in the real world. It is appropriate to be concerned about the monetary debt we leave the next generation of Americans, and we should minimize that if we can. But consider this: If we also leave them a world with a stable middle-east, one that doesn't groom fanatics to fly airplanes into our buildings, won't that have been worth it?

Leftists will refuse to consider the cost of the WOT in real-world terms because, if they did, they'd be fans of Dubya. Don't let them grind you down.

"We're devoting additional resources to our schools, to help them meet the higher expectations set by the No Child Left Behind Act. My budget calls for a 49-PERCENT INCREASE over 2001 spending on our public schools. There will be additional money for early reading programs for schools in low-income areas, and for enhanced Pell Grant scholarships for students who complete a rigorous curriculum."--GWB on his new budget

I'm keeping that little bit of info ready for the next "Books not bombs" boob

I never see them so concerned about the cost of ANYTHING paid for with other people's money the way they are about Iraq. It's not like the cost of the war goes into their personal pot budgets.

The more money we pump into public schools, the more dangerous they get and the more uneducated the children that graduate are. Meanwhile a homeschooled child is 3 times smarter and for far less money!

National security, world stability, and saving huddled masses from mass graves is the horse, everything else is the cart.

The national budget is what it is. Amounts are set and that's what is going to that "cause". It's not like this nation slashed the tremendous amounts already allocated for education and every other liberal pet social program to fund the military.

We are spend more today, even adjusted for inflation, on all the liberals pets than we did in the 1990's. And if half of us all die tomorrow, or major parts of our nation becomes an inhabitable land mass for the next two thousand year, we are not going to all be looking at each other and saying "yeah, but what about education?".

The sheetheads will still scream its not enough. Here is the definition of "enough education funding" from the liberals:

When the publik skoo system is able to indoctrinate every child in America 100% to vote for the Hildebeast and surrender the US Constitution to the Godless and immoral United NeoMarxists.

We could dump a zillion, kajillion, umptillion dollars into the system but as long as there are smart students who survived the indoctrination, it's not enough.
