President Bush and the First Lady attended the "majestic" funeral for Pope John Paul II today in Rome. The President and the First Lady, as well as, Poppy Bush are heading for the Ranch as I'm typing this. The President spoke to the Press Pool on the way back from Rome.. You are right I just re-looked at the photo and realised that it is not his hand but Laura's and of course what he is actually doing is moving backwards so that she can actually shake his hand. However it does make it look as though GWB is trying to avoid him.

Several of the Greek Orthodox priests, a couple of cardinals, and several of the dignitaries wore sunglasses.

Sunglasses are often required if you have sensitive eyes, if you are recovering from eye surgery, or if you wish to wear them to hide tears. I find them a neutral item.
