Yahoo, White House

Posted on 04/08/2005 2:01:14 PM PDT by MJY1288

President Bush and the First Lady attended the "majestic" funeral for Pope John Paul II today in Rome. The President and the First Lady, as well as, Poppy Bush are heading for the Ranch as I'm typing this. The President spoke to the Press Pool on the way back from Rome.. It is a must read, I will post a link to the interview

Yes of course our Cabinet is made up from current MPs or Members of the House of Lords so I suppose you can say that these people have been vetted by their own party at local level before even being nominated as a candidate for MP so further investigation is not needed. Even our Prime Minister is a MP (Member of Parliament).

However using this criteria I can understand someone having to have confirmation if they are not currently holding a government position in the US but in the Case of Condi she was already a Cabinet Minister when she was nominated for Secretary of State so I do not understand why she had to have a confirmation hearing.

I have never heard of those. I'll look those up for my oldest. She's like me, has a book to read all the time, so we are always looking for something new or different.

See everyone later...I'm grilling stuffed salmon and need to check on it and then we're having our movie night at home. Enjoyed the dose.

THE PRESIDENT: ... I hope, I haven't heard, but it may be that the wild flowers, are they out yet? They say there is going to be a spectacular blue bonnet season this year, I mean, spectacular.

....and they are. I just got back from that part of Texas and the President will enjoy seeing a bumper crop of bluebonnets!

Several threads going about it. Do a search under "Bush, Clinton". Sorry, I'd do it for you, but I'm too tired!

clintbilly was quoted as saying the Pope would have a mixed legacy, President Bush disagreed.

Our Founding Fathers wrote an "advice and consent of the Senate" into our Constitution. That means the president makes numerous appointments of his cabinet officials (your ministers) with the advice and consent of the Senate rather than on his own authority with no oversight. It can be a pain but it does help vet some candidates who should not be elevated to accessing the presidential ear. (Anyone remember Zoe Baird and Kimba Wood?) How Janet Reno slipped by still amazes me.

The idea is also that Congress has to work with the president's nominees and our Founders didn't want too much power invested in the Executive.

She LOVES cats! I am sure she would love these books. Is he vampire-vegetable angle in all three books, or just one? If one, which title?

Here is another question for you then why was it not deemed therefore that the Cabinet Members are either Congressmen or Members of the Senate like our system why is it if some is a Congressman Or Member of the Senate and they are appointed to a Ministerial position they have to resign their seat?

It is more telling/insulting that "W" is not even looking in the direction of the slightee....Eye contact or lack there of tells alot.

I didn't see photos of the action before that shot was snapped, but TTTT, W looks to me as if he can barely stand to be in the presence of that man. His body language is not difficult to make out here. lol And nominating Bolton for the UN post is the best body language I've seen.

New post, different duties, Senate wanting to make sure she wouldn't explode when filled with noxious gases absorbed when around nefarious world leaders. ;-)

Gorgeous! Thanks for the photo. It's got a dramatic look, very appealing.

The flowers just keep on blooming.

Once a friend and I trekked way to the back off the beaten path of a state park and found the most gorgeous tree, one of those that takes your breath away, tucked into the farthest corner at the bend in the trail. I was kind of sad that it was so far from where almost everyone would see it and told that to the Lord. Kind of like, "I'm sad You didn't 'plant' this tree where it could be seen, it's so glorious," kind of thing. He said to me, "Well, YOU saw it, didn't you?" Point taken.

Slacking? Moi????? It's tough work being a ranch wife!!!! I've been checking in on the Dose stealthily--can't miss GW and Laura and everyone's antics. At home, I'm working on many things including unpacking, but one of these days I'll be back in the swing here on FR. Slacking. HMPH.

Running the country as a MoC (Member of Congress) requires a different set of skills than running an agency. Presidents tend to either, IMO, look for Yes men (bad idea) who will simply do what he says, or they look for strong-minded leaders from the private or public sector (good idea).

They have to resign their Congressional seats because there isn't enough time to do both jobs and Congress has rules about them not being involved in other employment such as this, which would create an untenable conflict of interest with the way our system is set up. I know Winston Churchill wore many governmental hats simultaneously but he was an extraordinary individual and his type doesn't often surface.

Some Congress members have gone on to do a stellar job as Cabinet officials. John Ashcroft comes to mind.
