The Negatives Of Homosexuality on Society

Posted on 04/08/2005 11:10:27 AM PDT by RedBeaconNY

Hey FReepers- I am a sophomore in high school. For English class, I have to write a debatable paper, and I have chosen to write on the various negative effects of homosexuality and the homosexual movement on American society. I was wondering if you could direct me towards some credible sources on the subject- including a list of laws passed for/against homosexuality, opinions, stats, etc. Your opinions are welcome too- all's fair in an opinionative paper ;) Thank.

I do not consider homosexuals to be "queer."

I thought the word queer was a little derogatory myself, but some homosexuals refer to themselves as queer and then there are places like queer.com and queer.net and queer.org... and other sites.

Still, I don't think I've ever used the word queer myself. I don't consider homosexuals to be gay either, and try to remember to use the word homosexual instead. Well, sometimes I say ex-gay instead of former homosexual, but I prefer the latter...

I am against persecuting people who are different.

Agreed.

I do not consider homosexuals to be "queer." That phrase is objectionable.

Actually, many homosexuals take pride in being queer. It's certainly not objectionable to them. For example:

'Queer' Teens Invited to Share Their True Stories

And they even write books about it:

Queering Elementary Education

Do a Google search on Queer Studies and then search again on Queer Theory and see how many colleges and university have actual "Queer" programs.

They are here and they are queer and they have said so.

It isn't about whether they are good and nice people. That isn't the issue.

Yup, he's back.

Having a couple of friends and neighbors who are homosexual and one's biased "feelings" sure trump hundreds of articles, scores of studies, research (much of it done by homosexuals themselves), thousands of years of history, common sense, etc.

!!

The prolem occurs when people, such as most or many homosexuals (at least the vocal ones) DO identify themselves as their sexual desires and practices. They call themselves "queer", and they're proud of it. Reacting to that is not bigotry, it's reality.

Your post 100 seems to be what's happening in Canada. There as in the US, the overwhelming majority of the people oppose this power shift. Such changes can only be brought about in the courts.

Thank you everybody for your help- I am tackling this topic no matter what the consequences. I would ask that if you post statistics that you put at least a website or a reference so that I can cite it in my paper. Otherwise, I am not allowed to use it... due to plagiarism- or falsification claims. Thanks again.

No way! This boy aught to be applauded for choosing to stand up for what is right despite the humiliation it could cause him. Any time we can we should always confront evil.

BTW bigsigh, just because your experience has led you to believe that homosexuality is not wrong (and harmful) doesn't mean that it is true! (In reality) Homosexuality is purely wrong, and does produce negative effects on real people; you are misled if you believe otherwise!!

When I was in my college speech class, one of my fellow students gave a speech supporting hunting. I was against it at the time. But he presented so many non-debatedable facts in his argument, he changed my mind forever.

Do your homework well, stick to facts and you'll do fine. Remember that pretty much the only arguments for gay are emotional ones.

Good luck.

I'm happy you said this. I've known a bunch of gays - in the design world, in the horse world, and I've pretty much liked them all. There is a gay couple with a bed and breakfast in a historic house here in Portland and I was there one morning for brunch, there were kids and friends running in and out. A lotta love in that house. More than I had with the miserable marriage I was in at the time. I decided I don't care who they sleep with, I care how they treat people and for the most part they're the same as everyone else, a lot of good one, some bad ones.

Check out narth.com

Also, google meth AND homosexuals. I was just reading about the new meth epidemic among homosexuals. Seems they are having sex parties using this drug, which of course results in unprotected sex which of course results in the spread of disease, etc.

I applaud your bravery in championing the truth, and propose you consider the moral perspective from a world leader and theologian who commissioned a panel of scientists, ethicists, and theologians to examine several questions—one being the nature of marriage.

The result was a document titled Humanae Vitae. It is available online through the Vatican website. Direct URL is http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/paul_vi/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-vi_enc_25071968_humanae-vitae_en.html

This document was issued in 1968 in the midst of the “sexual revolution.” A read of it today shows that it was a rather prophetic document. Most to your point (para 12): You cannot separate the unitive and procreative aspects of marriage. The result as you read further is a meaningless term “marriage” which could apply to any unitive relation—man to woman, man to man, man to beast, variations and multiples thereof…

I don't really agree. If homosexuals are exclusively homo from puberty onwards you would be right. But many, most?, are not. In past generations many homosexuals were married with kids. The homosexuality was secret. In the closet.

In fact one might argue that the increasing acceptance of homosexuality will result in there being fewer of them, if they come out earlier in life and live their entire lives as openly gay they are less likely to reproduce then previous generations.

Of course both theories suffer from the assumption that homosexuality is a genetic trait, and not a learned behaviour. Opinions vary on this. Of course the homosexual lobby favors the genetic theory as it makes their case for equal rights stronger.

The liberals and Lefties lose when it goes to a vote of the people. Their last hope is in the courts and that is why they have held up President Bush's nominees.

If you read the records of these nominees you see they are solid men and women with remarkably accomplished backgrounds. Each is admired and respected from in their own professional backyard.

The only reason to hold up these nominations is that they nominees are not socialist or Leftist and do not believe in making law from the bench.

One thing that disturbs me is the corruption of the language. Several perfectly good words can no longer be used in polite society because of their association and hijacking by extreme elements of the Left.

Queer and gay are obvious examples.
