Are "manifold sins and wickedness" only for garage mechanics that overcharge?

Camilla: "And naughty. Very, very naughty (giggle)"
Prince: "Yes. That we have."
Camilla: "Sinfully naughty..."
Prince: "And you'll be punished for your wickedness.. your sins... your naughty naughty wicked sins..."

I find this interesting. The article mentions the need for public penitence for both marrying a divorcee and for committing adultery while married.
The vast majority of Protestant churches don't give a damn about the implication of sin involved with these actions--and I'm a Protestant. That is partly why the divorce rate is higher for Christians per capita than it is for Atheists.
At least Atheists and those in the Church of England care about their vows and of holding their friends and family to them.

Who really cares? They got what they wanted and they could care less.

Catholics wouldn't let these two marry at all.

What about their homliness and bad taste?
To: ConservativeMind
Why do you say many protestants don't care about these sins?

Relax, people. The general confession prayer in the English prayer book is as follows:
ALMIGHTY God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, judge of all men; We acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, Which we, from time to time, most grievously have committed, By thought, word, and deed, Against thy Divine Majesty, Provoking most justly thy wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent, And are heartily sorry for these our misdoings; The remembrance of them is grievous unto us; The burden of them is intolerable. Have mercy upon us, Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; For thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ's sake, Forgive us all that is past; And grant that we may ever hereafter Serve and please thee In newness of life, To the honour and glory of thy Name; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
It's not at all suprising that this, or a similar prayer would be used.

I'm Protestant and if I did what these two have done, I'd be ex-communicated. I'm Presbyterian and we take divorce and adultery very seriously. Nor would I be allowed to remarry.

Well, do you know anyone who would refuse to go to such a wedding who are "Christian"? I would refuse and always have, because I would have to protest the wedding.
I talk to people about the wrongness of not reconciling or simply staying single (as Paul states of God in 1 Cor.). And how often have you been to a Protestant wedding ceremony in which the two getting married had to admit such sin to be clean prior to marriage in the eyes of God?
Protestants don't give a damn as a rule. I am one rare exception.
Are you?
To: twigs
You are obviously of the conservative branch. Your church is one of the few who hold to the truth on this.
Unfortunately, this is rare.
To: katieanna
This is just part of the rite taken from the Book of Common prayer, presumably.
The difficulty is that it's really not possible to be sorry or contrite for sins if you intend even while you speak to keep on committing them. That's why remarriage is a problem for Catholics. Unlike falling into adultery or some other sin and then repenting and resolving to sin no more, A second marriage involves taking on a second commitment, which also involves the intention to deliberately and permanently break the original commitment.
Evelyn Waugh raises this problem in "Brideshead Revisited."

Well said.
But where the Catholic church looses its legitimacy in this area is with the travesty of annulment.
Effectively, it is the same. And with a member of the the Kennedy family getting a marriage annulled after more than a dozen years, the Catholic church is totally broken on this matter.

Camilla: I'm drawn to people whose I.Q. is inversely proportional to their financial assets.
