I don't understand why the Prez is so upset. He was the one who said Americans should get involved and do some kind of community service. This is even greater than that. They're doing the whole country a service that the government can't do, and making them look like jackasses while they do it. Wasn't this what he meant? LOL
President Bush isn't going to change his position on the guest worker program, as he's consistently expressed his views on illegals for some time now. He believes they are essential to fill jobs Americans won't take (on starvation wages).
I often wonder why so many Freepers believe President Bush is conservative, when compassionate conservatism means the government should do more--not less. Say what you will about the man, but he's steadfast. The only thing he's likely to do about illegal immigration is declare it legal.
Privately, Minutemen are getting word from agents in the field that they appreciate their help. As Mr. Simcox told Fox News Thursday morning, agents are giving the "thumbs up" to the volunteers. How ironic that the people who President Bush derided as "vigilantes" are acting as much-needed extra eyes and ears for law-enforcement officials. The Minutemen have all but sealed the U.S.-Mexico border in the 23-mile stretch they patrol. Their success suggests that, organized in larger scale with a cooperative federal government, groups like Project Minuteman could be a substantial contribution to border security.
