Even if the Mexican economy were to grow 3 percent a year faster than either of its NAFTA partners, it would still take Mexico more than 20 years to reach one half of Canada's GDP per capita, and more than 30 years to attain one half of that of the United States.

Something to remember when you hear someone say the immigration problem can be solved by raising the Mexican economy.

Neither Mexico nor Canada have any real interest in "deeper integration" since it means reducing the elites of those countries to little fish in a big pond. The only ones really pushing this sort of thing are American leftist internationalists, who think dissolving the U.S. is the first step to a one world utopia, and Wall Street bloodsuckers salivating with the desire to loot Mexico, who don't care if the U.S. dissolves in the process as long as they get theirs. One hundred years from now Mexico will still be Mexico, but the U.S. and Canada will have gone up the chimney.

Mexicans, for their part, worry about . . . US control . . . displacing important elements of their culture

Ah ha! The dirty brown supremacists, they just want to keep the little white people out of their country! I knew it!

those in that age group, unless they had very dedicated parents never learned the responsibilities of their citizenship or how to preserve their republic.

Agreed. It reminds me of the petition I received today from Californians for Fair Redistricting. I like the way Bill Mundell's letter put it:

"The greatest gift a democracy gives us is our right to vote. We, the voters, are supposed to choose our political leaders. Unfortunately, in California today, [and this could apply nationally as well] the politicians have turned things upside down. Under their current system, politicians actually get to choose their voters...instead of the voters choosing their politicians."

Only through ignorance and apathy have we allowed this kind of thing to happen.

I remember GATT (WTO) was supported in our Chicago rag as a means to lower the price of German beer, LOL! Did the price drop? Nope.

Could it be said it is all but declared a done deal???

you have a terminal cancer ... you know it's there but you just can't face up to what it really means ... that's how all this crap feels to me .

All their children born here are legal and will be a big pressure group in a few decades.

Just look at federal funding to see the agenda. Hundreds of billions for the DHS to (supposedly) protect us from terrorists, but no money for 2,000 measly Border Patrolmen, or a decent standard border fence.

all of these quotes are [and many others] dead on to how this crap hits my stomach.

IMHO the damage has been done , the deals were set in motion too long ago for reasonable things like bitchin up the food chain to stop the avalanche at this late date.

everyone keeps askin, is it time YET ?

I would like to anwer that question now with one of my own.

WHERE DO WE START ???

if you are under 50 years old, the public school you went to was already contaminated against the founding principles of the Republic, and those in that age group, unless they had very dedicated parents never learned the responsibilities of their citizenship or how to preserve their republic.

worth repeating, just look into the dazed eyes of most any hs student while discussing a 'Republic'.

Hell Ive only began paying attention in the last 10 yrs or so, at27, then I still believed there was hope. now what little glimmer of a peaceful solution I had fades a little more every day...

We haven't seen you on this "free trade" thread yet. How come?

I cannot bring myself to read a three-year-old report from Brookings. This thread is all yours.

Hard Decisions and Hard Work Ahead There is no easy path to greater integration for the three nations of North America. In each country, there are sizable groups, perhaps even majorities, who remain unhappy about NAFTA and its results, and there is substantial political resistance to further integration from those who are convinced they will lose more of value than they gain.

Hard work bump!

You know that feeling you get when you are so pissed off that you can feel the muscles twitching in your face above your lip (happens to me on the right side)? That's what I feel when I read about this crap. Who in the hell are these son of a bitches to be casually discussing relieving me of my freedoms, my Constitution, and my Nation? I owe ZERO allegiance to "North America". My family has not fought and died for this country for 250 years just to have some smug globalist assholes plotting the demise of this nation's sovereignty like they are planning a bake sale.

Best rant of the week!

Quite a long winded article in which I find nothing at all to agree with.

I advocate hanging all the participants in this travesty.

We are in a one sided hot war with Mexico, and a one sided cold war with Canada and these clowns advocate surrendering all that makes America worth living in.

Seems like their goal is the destruction of the Constituion and America's middle class.

There is no simple or rapid way to reduce the income gap.

Yes there is, and America is doing it. That is the beautiful thing about Bush's open borders. Mexicans come in and take low paying jobs away from America's unskilled workers. Second we outsource every job that pays a living wage, so our skilled American workers are made destitute.

Then our President will add millions of Mexicans onto our social programs in each state, thereby bankrupting the states and bringing on anarchy, which will be put down by an international army and Ruth Bader Ginsberg's Supreme Court of international law.

Next all elderly and sick Americans will be euthanised by the Culture of Death religion, with the OK from our politicians and courts. That will take a lot of complainers and those opposing open borders out of play.

The result: Instant New Mexico and Instant New World Order where everybody lives in Hell but the lousy politicians.
