On March 18th, a shocking crime took place in Berkeley, California, at a spot famous for sweeping Bay views, distinguished architecture, and the genteel atmosphere that wealthy progressives create for themselves. An elderly woman, walking home with her husband from an extension class at the University of California, was grabbed from behind by a young woman who had just walked past her on the sidewalk. In a flash, her throat was slit to the bone.
As she spurted blood, the suspect drove off with her companion, another young woman, in a light blue BMW M3 convertible, a car which carries a suggested retail price of 55 thousand dollars.
Astoundingly, the victim survived the attack, thanks to the many witnesses who called for police and medical assistance, and after six hours in surgery and an extended stay in intensive care, has been released from the hospital. The 75 year old also survived being struck by lightning in her youth.
From the beginning, police and prosecutors were very cagey in revealing information about the case. The victims name was not published in the press, for reasons of security. The evening of the crime, a suspect was apprehended, a sixteen year old juvenile, whose name was withheld, as is the usual case with juveniles. She was jailed and then ordered to undergo psychological examination. Subsequent press reports indicated that the suspect had a history of both mental illness and violent attacks. She had escaped from a care facility.
But the most curious aspect of the case is the identity, behavior, and subsequent official treatment of the companion. Eleven days after the incident, the press revealed that she was a county mental health worker assigned to Juvenile Hall.

The inmates are literally running the asylum. As County Employess, now.
Were it not for the fact that innocents are dieing as a result, I really wouldn't care.
The blade must have missed the carotid artery. The victim was very lucky.
I don't understand the silence of the victim. Does she fear a larger conspiracy of social workers-who-aim-to-kill?
Statistically, violent attacks like this are much rarer in this area than in most other major metropolitan areas. Most of our criminals are devoted to pursuing "quality of life" crimes. This was a very unusual incident.
>> Because of its mysticism, and because it espouses peace and tolerance and believes in accepting everyone, Sufism, in America in particular, has been embraced by many in the new age religious movement in the United States. <<

Pinging some FRiends....check this out folks.
What's all the fuss? The victim was old and her quality of life was low. She was being done a favor and so was society. Geeze, she's a consumer not a producer. /sarcasm
Thanks for the ping a_d. This is truly unbelievable.
You may be right. I wasn't basing my statement strictly on crime statistics, though. It's purely a personal sense, I know that other people feel quite differently about the area. For myself, I lived in the Bay area for six months and had to move. I simply couldn't stand it any longer.
also there was an arrest of two potential teenage suicide bombers in NY yesterday -
You're right, and I should correct myself. I really was referring to the Bay area, specifically.
Touche!
Bump.

The Face of Satan--by opening them selves up to anything (Mysticism), the only voice they can hear is the evil one. Another reason why San Francisco is so much like Sodom and Gommorah (it's almost to the point where ten righteous people can't be found.)
Good post bump.
Bump!
Do you mean Berkeley alone, the East Bay or the Bay area? Oakland is very violent. And there are lots of places in Berkeley that are quite unsafe to walk at night.
