And now abide faith, hope, love, these three;
but the greatest of these is love.
We come to You in praise and adoration, grateful for the multitude of blessings You have poured out upon us. We confess that taking these gifts of Yours for granted is but one of our sins; help us to always remember that every good and perfect gift comes from You. And place in our hearts constantly the joy of Your greatest Gift of all, the atonement of our sins on the Cross and the resurrection of Your Son and our Savior, Jesus. Let us awake each day with a renewed awareness that the tomb is empty and that our Lord lives, walking with us and talking with us along life's narrow way.
Father, we thank You for the life of John Paul II and his witness of faith, hope, and love to people of all faiths. We consider ourselves fortunate to have lived in a time when this man of great humility, courage, and compassion has been in residence in the Vatican. We pray now that the Conclave of Cardinals will be wise in their choice of a successor and select a man who will remain true to Your Word and who will heed Your voice, seeking to carry out Your will. Lead them in their mission of electing the next Pope.
We thank You for the safe journey of our President and those accompanying him to Italy. Watch over them and the others who have traveled to the funeral, keeping them safe from all harm.
Continue to speak Your message to President Bush and guide his every thought, word, and deed. Let him keep his eyes stayed on You that he may lean on Your wisdom rather than his own understanding.
Lord, we mourn the loss of our troops in Afghanistan and pray that You will comfort their families, holding them close to Your heart and giving them strength for the difficult days ahead. Bless all the members of our military, whether serving at home or abroad. Be their Light when the days seem dark and dreary; be their Anchor when their seas are stormy; be their Shield as they defend our nation and work to bring freedom to others.
Lord, we pray for our nation. We have sinned against You and forgotten Your commandments, given not for Your sake but for ours. Restore in America a desire to celebrate life, morality, and goodness. In the Name of Jesus. Amen.
Praise God from Whom all blessings flow.
AMEN KAYAK AND AMEN ALL!
Thou God of my end,
Thou hast given me a fixed disposition
to go forth and spend my life for thee;
If it be thy will let me proceed in it;
if not, then revoke my intentions.
All I want in life is such circumstances
as may best enable me to serve thee in the world;
To this end I leave all my concerns in thy hand,
but let me not be discouraged,
for this hinders my spiritual fervency;
Enable me to undertake some task for thee,
for this refreshes and animates my soul,
so that I could endure all hardships and labours,
and willingly suffer for thy name.
But, O what a death it is to strive and labour,
to be always in a hurry and yet do nothing!
Alas, time flies and I am of little use.
O that I could be a flame of fire in thy service,
always burning out in one continual blaze.
Fit me for singular usefulness in this world.
Fit me to exult in distresses of every kind
if they but promote the advancement
of thy kingdom.
Fit me to quit all hopes of the worlds friendship,
and give me a deeper sense of my sinfulness.
Fit me to accept as just desert from thee
any trial that may befall me.
Fit me to be totally resigned to the denial
of pleasures I desire,
and to be content to spend my time with thee.
Fit me to pray with a sense of the joy
of divine communion,
to find all times happy seasons to my soul,
to see my own nothingness,
and wonder that I am allowed to serve thee.
Fit me to enter the blessed world
where no unclean thing is,
and to know thee with me always.
