FreeRepublic Pledges (Vanity)
TheHound

Posted on 04/06/2005 6:50:29 PM PDT by TheHound

Why do these pledge periods have to take so long? For a measly $66,000, I would think the pledge period would only last about a week. If everyone who used this cite for longer, in a year, than they do reading a magazine subsciption, pledged the price of a magazine subscription, I believe the pledge amount would be met in about two days. I certainly hope the day never comes when I have to see "Cialis" ads blinking on the right side of the FR page so they can pay for bandwidth!

How can I be JR, when it's already well-known that I'm Marilyn Monroe? That is, when I'm not Ming the Merciless.

The brain trust of banned disruptors, trolls, and mental defectives who migrated over to LP have spoken!

Now then, do you want to sign up and get a password to the Swimsuit Forumtm, or don't you?

To heck with the pics; I want to "braille" the models to determine the proper swimsuit sizes during the photoshoot:

"Hmmmm; I THINK you're a 38D, but just to be sure, I better double check!!!!"

LOL. Very intriguing. I think people justify free loading by finding fault with how JR spends the money that they themselves have not contributed. IMO, folks who use this site on a regular basis should realize that it takes an enormous amount of money to finance it. Jim Robinson took the initiative to build FR and keeps it going come hell or high water. Or conspiracy theories, or theorists. Some folks have said they don't want to pay by credit card or check for security reasons so I would remind them that money orders are also an inexpensive way to send a contribution.

Yay, the FReepathon goal has been reached despite the naysayers. :-)

According to the posted budget, the goal was reached long ago.

Truth in advertising is my concern - nothing else. Numbers should match. That was my Q. EdReform gave a somewhat detailed explanation for the past discrepancies. Kudos to EdReform, I say! Simple and painless.

If the budget is listed as less than 60K (can't recall off the top of my head) then when the fundraiser amount is higher, it would be simple and less painful to post why the amount varies upfront.

BTW, just because it's not on this thread, please don't assume Jim hasn't been pinged to my concerns.

I resent like hell when people attack someone asking questions and cast asparagus ;) on their motives.

If someone doesnt't care about their donation, that's just ducky. But some people do care, and would like to see simple questions answered, and not see other posters pile on. FWIW, I asked a Q about something in the budget a couple of quarters ago. Jim answered me and that was cool. And for those getting pissy towards the questioners - listen, if you're going to ask for money, can you really expect no one to question what for and why? So when people do, why do other posters need to get in your face (with nothing factual or informative - with the exception of EdReform).

Who knows, maybe the nastiness from the Terri threads has turned into personal styles for some posters.

I'm not super sure how to respond to your post as I haven't followed this thread very closely and am not familiar with the way FR finances are handled. I guess by "naysayers" I meant the folks who were attempting to spread dissension by subtly cheering how the fundraising was going slowly.

And who, exactly, do you think that about? Don't be shy now - name names.

Correction: how the fundraising was *seeming* to go slowly.

You're feeling defensive about it. That's ok.

I just wish that rather then making a drama out of it you had just pinged the man and asked. It would have been such a simple, logical and courteous thing to do.

I am just attempting to understand the logic here. Or rather the non-logic.

If I had a question on a companies finances I would go to the CEO or the CFO not the guys on the floor. And I certainly wouldn't assume that they would just pass my inquiry up the line.

But that is just me. I find engaging in dramatics unproductive.

You're feeling defensive about it.

You're projecting. If you want "defensive", then check out some of the accusations I gathered merely for asking. Anyway, thanks for sharing - I'll be sure to give your suggestions all the consideration they deserve.

Oh I have read them. And you got exactly what you wanted. Drama.

If not you would have simply asked Jim. Personally that would have been what I would have told you to do in the first place but others are kinder then I and actually tried to help you to the best of their abilities.

Are you sure you're interested?

Well, I take what I can get... I'm a fast learner, and if they squirm too much, I can probably still do three loops and a hooey in under twelve seconds...

There you go with the drama again.

And yet what have I said? I simply suggested that you would have been better off asking the man in charge. Interesting that you would twist that into that rather vulgar innuendo.

Where is your compulsion to display all of this hostility coming from?

Speaking for myself, however, I think what I'm interested in seeing is a balance sheet that, well, balances. That's it. I don't think that's too much to give to contributors, do you?

Well, not "too much to give," if he wants to. But if he doesn't care to, and he's not breaking any laws or regulations by not doing so, then that's certainly his right.

For my piddlin' contributions, I'm in no position to demand anything. I've always gotten much more from FR than I could give, though, and I enjoy it more without the guilt trip of not helping when I can.

And yet you're the one persisting in this, long after it should all be over. Why? How is it down there? Is it tasty? Be honest now - is it everything you thought it could be?

LOL - I may have my own faults, but frankly, I'm sort of embarassed for the man now. This display of rank bootlicking is just too much, really. Give the poor guy a break, willya?

I agree. I can ask, but it's up to him whether or not I get it.
