FreeRepublic Pledges (Vanity)

Why do these pledge periods have to take so long? For a measly $66,000, I would think the pledge period would only last about a week. If everyone who used this cite for longer, in a year, than they do reading a magazine subsciption, pledged the price of a magazine subscription, I believe the pledge amount would be met in about two days. I certainly hope the day never comes when I have to see "Cialis" ads blinking on the right side of the FR page so they can pay for bandwidth!

Though I admit I really don't know
As I have stated .. there have been multiple threads regarding the questions you asked .. Jim has explained it many times

I'm sorry, but I've only been here about 4 months, and I guess I missed the answer last quarter Something tells me that you are familiar with the search function on FR

Let me be perfectly honest - I believe you. I'm really honestly certain that there's a perfectly good answer. I just don't know that answer, so I'm honestly trying to find out. That's it. That's all. It probably has been answered many times before, but I don't know where the answer is buried, so if you can help, I'd sure appreciate it.

And that's OK, for you. But you sure expended alot of energy skating the boards (hockey term,) to get to your crux and true sticking point.
To me, it's just not much of a biggy. But that's me. I use many resources of this board, all the while gaining much knowledge in its newsworthiness and interaction afforded, and am happy to give back a little to help defer that cost of my use--without breaking a sweat. I DO NOT begrudge anyone who cannot.
The Freepathon is going along swimmingly, and for that, as is true for many other FReepers and lurkers I'm sure, is a good thing. No down sides that I can see.

Well, it really wasn't my original point - I found it quite by accident as I was trying to figure out if the TS stuff was having an impact or not. The jury's still out on that, I guess, but it seemed odd to me that there was what appeared to be extra money out there. I don't begrudge JR for supporting himself off of FR if need be - I'm sure running this place is a full time job, and the guy's gotta eat. But when the numbers appear funny, I have to ask what's going on. It seems that nothing's going on, and I just missed the answer to my question somewhere, so if anyone wants to help point me to it, I'll just shut up about it. Really.

I should add, I suppose, that I'm not interested in somehow shutting down the fundraising, or making FR go away somehow. I enjoy posting here, I have many friends here, and I'd be disappointed to see it go away. I just don't see it as unfair or off-limits to find out what we're being asked to support.

But you have been here since 2001 .. are you telling me that you missed all the threads where Jim explained this?

Some sort of retread, I guess? That would be my guess
I would also guess s/he falls under the category of pitting freepers against freepers and who's sole purpose is to stir up trouble

I never really paid much attention to the details before. It honestly wasn't something I spent much time thinking about. I only noticed this time around by accident, as I was looking for something else. I couldn't even tell you if there was any overage in the last fundraiser - for all I know, this is a one-shot deal.

Your posting history on this subject is dizzying, to put it mildly. Every which way but loose. Someone stop the insincerity ride--I'm getting off.

What subject? Fundraising? Not much "history" to be dizzying - I think virtually every post I've ever made on the subject is right here on this thread. And frankly, you haven't been around nearly long enough to question my sincerity.

FReepers can judge for themselves if they so choose to look, as I just did. And when all else fails, play the seniority card. Good day, general.

While I hope I have never insulted you, I just wanted to say I have always enjoyed your comments. They are thought out and honest. In the end, even if you disagreed it was still done with mutual respect. Why thank you kindly! No worries, you haven't insulted me even in the slightest bit. Matter of fact, you are one of those posters who usually has well thought out posts. I agree, even if we do happen to disagree now and again; no harm, no foul.
Again thank you for enhancing the FR experience.
I aim to please! :)

Pointing out that you don't know me well enough to judge my sincerity is hardly "playing the seniority card". You don't, and that's a fact.
