Today Show Rips W, Condi for Failure to Invite Carter to Papal Funeral (Peanut Gallery Alert)
The Today Show | governsleast governsbest

Posted on 04/06/2005 4:27:30 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

All this adulation of John Paul II, a man of monumental moral stature, must be gnawing at MSM innards.

You could almost hear the command go out from the NBC honchos: "find me something we can use to bash a conservative. Make it Bush if you can."

And sure enough, Today managed to come up with a great two-fer this morning, managing to take swipes at both W and Condi over the exclusion of Jimmy Carter from the US delegation to the papal funeral.

Andrea Mitchell, reporting the story, clearly wasn't buying the White House line that Carter politely asked himself to be removed from the invitation list when he learned that space was very limited.

Tongues-a-clucking, Katie and Andrea wondered aloud at least three times why the White House didn't simply ask the Vatican for one more invitation, "especially because Pres. Carter was the first and only president to invite the Pope to the White House, and shared an interest with him in Third World issues."

Andrea surmised this was all pay-back for Carter's harsh criticism of the Iraq war, which he called a "quagmire," predicting the failure of the January elections.

Not content to snipe at W, Today also managed to get in a shot at Condi. Asked Katie "under the circumstances, wouldn't the right thing have been for Condi Rice to step aside and give Carter her place?"

Mitchell acknowledged that, after all, the Vatican is a state, and as the chief diplomatic official it was logical for Condi to attend. Nevertheless, Andrea opined that Rice should have ceded her seat to Mr. Peanut.

You could almost hear the sigh of relief on the set and in the NBC executive suites. After an intolerable week, Today was back doing what it does best: bashing Republicans.

I remember Jimmy Carter. He's the turd that took our (82ND) berets away. I also remember spending the night sleeping next to a gas pump on my way home on leave. Lucky I had out of state tags, so I could get gas.

IMO, Carter sucks!

I was too young to vote back then, in fact, my first Presidential election was 1988, when I voted for Bush the Elder. But I had already seen the light after living through the late 70s with first the Peanut, and then what Ronaldus Magnus did to turn the country around. Jimmuh and Ronny both get credit for making me a lifelong, broken-glass Republican.

I wonder how many Freepers saw the light during the Carter years...I bet quite a few.

I hate to admit I voted for him (purely because of the Nixon pardon, which also taught me a lesson about single issue voting!), and by the end of his time in office I loathed seeing him on TV.

Oh, let's not forget he tried to get the Soviets to interfere in the US election to help him!!!

WORST PRESIDENT EVER!!!

I remember living in NYC when John Paul became the Pope. We were in a children's hospital visiting the son of one of our church members. In a bed next to him was this horribly deformed boy of about 17 who was perhaps 30" in length, if his legs could have been straightened out. The pastor asked him, "Michael, are you going to go see the pope?" Michael said that he wasn't. "Because you're not Catholic?" the pastor asked. "No," Michael said. "Because I'm not Polish."

If anyone would like to be added to my ping lists for reports on liberal bias at The Today Show and occasionally at other MSM, please let me know by private message or post.

The President won't say a word and will be courteous.

Dubya will turn, and gently whisper into his ear, "you're next."

There is a congressional delegation going, including Ted Kennedy, Chris Dodd, and John Kerry.

I assume they are going to be seated in the apostates' section.

Did you notice that they didn't ask why Clinton didn't give up his seat to Carter?

I'm kind of surprised Clinton wants to go -- I'm remembering Cardinal O'Connor's funeral in New York, when the homilist praised Cardinal O'Connor's firm anti-abortion stance and got a standing ovation (yes, in St. Patrick's Cathedral!). Clinton, Hill and the Gores sat through it, not clapping, looking uncomfortable and pretending they didn't hear it, fidgeting as though they were looking for something.

Apostates' section would be an understatement! Is Ted driving them to the funeral?
