He is right that the reps will need someone with charisma and star power, not a boring regional politician.

But there is not a chance in heck that I would ever vote for him as President.

He's not qualified, but if the choice were between Mel Gibson and Miss Hillary, I'd choose Gibson in a heartbeat.

Arnold never held political office before. I think these days that's actually an asset.

Arnold is not Commander in Chief. He doesn't control a nuclear arsenal and he has zero to do with anything concerning a foreign government or entity like the UN. If he were able to do any of these, I suspect we'd all like him a lot less!

People view politicians as being lower than a snake's belly and their morals are for sale.

I'm a political fanatic. I have to be: I teach American Government to high school students. Hence, I just love watching that show The West Wing. Have you ever seen the episode titled Posse Commitatus? The President must be convinced by his political Chief of Staff and the Chairman of the Joint Chief's of Staff to issue an order to assassinate a guy visiting the Oval Office (from some fictional country) because he's a terrorist. Bartlett is at a play and he keeps muttering: It's just plain wrong. and his advisor and friend, totally agrees that it's wrong but he STILL has to do it. Worse, time is running out. The SEALs are waiting for the go order. Leo McGarry repeats that the President has to issue the order. The President asks WHY? The response is one of the single most powerful moments I have ever seen and the total explanation to your entire observation.

Leo McGarry: Yes, it's wrong but you still have to do it.

President Bartlett: Why?

Leo McGarry: Because you won.

Do you see? Politics the Presidency and the country can't be tied up in simplistic things like morality and do the right thing because if we follow kindergarten rules, we all die. That's why I never struck back against Clinton for hazy stuff he did in his role as commander in chief. Bush #43 has much bigger cojones than either his dad or Clinton and he truly has the best interests of the country at heart.

Ronald Reagan was a lot like a Founding Father. The likes of HIM will never be seen in this country again, at least not anytime soon. He was at the right place at the right moment in history (just like the Framers) to do what had to be done to insure our survival. Neither Arnold or Mel can lay claim to that legacy.

Mel GIBSON = Clark Gable

I am amazed at the physical resemblence, between Gibson and Gable! ...Especially after renting the classic, "Mutiny on the Bounty."

The movie is INTENSE - evil, good,
human nature, violence.

It was hard to watch, but a perfect
study of how INEPT Leaders resort to
violence when they are unable to LEAD.

Hillary = Captain Bligh -in- a Pantsuit

Mel Gibson = Fletcher Christian

Ditto, until I see a heck of a lot more of him in lower political office, shoring up his conservative bonafides.

No, because he hasn't gone around the country giving speeches about Concervative values for the past 20 years. He hasn't give a fantastic speech at a Republican convention. He has not given a televised campaign speech for a Conservative candidate.

He is a good man, a good actor, and a great director.

Ditto. These are same chicken littles who were running around with their heads cuts off wailing about Cheney costing the Republicans the last election if he wasn't replaced by someone with "charisma". We all know what happened. Why these people panic so quickly I don't know.

Gibson's true personality is reflected in his "Lethal Weapon" character.

IOW, he's nuts.

Let him make his movies. Gibson ain't no Reagan.

Mel was anti-war right? I can't see him being a decisive CIC. And the left will pull up all of that garbage on his dad.

Mel Gibson has way too much baggage to be considered for any public office. In his younger days, his personal life was less than exemplary. While that is not a problem for politicians, at least nowadays, if you are arguing against birth control, abortion, and various vices, you will be exposed to charges of hypocrisy unless you lived a squeaky clean life all your days.

More importantly, Gibson's brand of Catholicism is far more traditionalist than that of the late Pope John Paul II, who was considered a conservative in the Catholic Church of the present time. To use a Protestant analogy, he would be the equivalent of a KJV only, separationist independent Baptist, far more fundamental than Falwell, Dobson, Kennedy, Robertson, etc. In political equivalency, he would be like a member of the Constitution or Taxpayers Party. His religious beliefs would be a major obstacle for his obtaining elected office. Being at odds with Rome will not endear Gibson to most Catholics, even conservative ones. Additionally, traditionalists hold to the position of extra ecclesia nulla salus (no salvation outside the Catholic Church), a belief that would not endear him to evangelicals.

Whether he was born in New York or New South Wales, Gibson is better off doing what he does best: making movies.
