BEIJING, April 4 -- A 300-year-old, 40-ton stone stele, which is a flat stone with carvings on it, has been discovered in Beijing.
The stone was carved with two articles written by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty in both the Chinese and Manchurian languages.
All the characters and decorations on the stele are well preserved.
The articles, respectively entitled 'On Imperial Capital' and 'On National Capital', tell of Emperor Qianlong's opinion of which city should be the nation's capital.
After some comparisons, they conclude that Beijing is the best choice as China's capital.
The huge stele, which is an important cultural relic discovered in Beijing since the entry of 21st century, will soon be displayed to the public in the new hall of Capital Museum.

Thought this might interest you.
An early blog?
The Chinese are becoming very Nazi-esque with their recent "discoveries" that all lead to nationalism. Everything unearthed is interpreted accoring in a manner that puts the best light on increased nationalism. Anyone else notice this phenomenon?
Three hundred years old is ancient?
Who will blame what?
You make an interesting point.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm surprised it didn't have an "ancient" carving of One-China.
Good point, wonder if the government was holding this or they recently made it. The Chinese officials are getting real nervous right now because they can't stop their people from wondering what real freedom is like. On the other hand, we should be glad that they are not all driving cars cause our gas would be $20 a gallon right now.

Yes, they are becoming national socialists. Their current brand of Chinese nationalism is also inherently expansionistic.
New Reports say the stele has this inscription that has puzzled Red Chinese scholars: Unleash Chiang!
(that may be a little too obscure for some of you young whippersnappers, but I'm not inclined to reveal the joke.)Try google.
Something has gone terribly wrong with the dating system. A 300 year old stone carving is current events, not ancient at all.
