Being new and all, I don't understand what a ping is...

If I want to alert someone else to this thread, I put their handle into the "To:" box above, and that is a ping.
Unfortunately, you have now taken the first step on what will become a multi-hundred post long thread with many references to moose, killer rabbit, being logged in, ignore this post, and various other forum jokes.
Questions are encouraged, but be forewarned that this is a different kind of web forum where any excuse to kid and joke is a good excuse.
Though, admittedly, there are times when seriousness is required.
You will learn the difference eventually.
