Climate Change In Pennsylvania (Barf Alert)
County Press ^ | State Rep. Greg VitaIi

Posted on 04/04/2005 7:09:19 PM PDT by Tribune7

On Feb.15, the eve of the effective date of the Kyoto Treaty on global warming, I introduced the Pennsylvania Greenhouse Gas Reduction Act (H.B. 500), which would represent an important first step for Pennsylvania in addressing global climate change.

Our federal government's failure to sign on to the Kyoto Treaty makes it even more important for individual states to take action. Pennsylvania has a particular responsibility to act. Our state alone produces about 1 percent of the world's greenhouse gas emissions, more than 105 developing nations combined.

The Greenhouse Gas Reduction Act, which was introduced with the bipartisan support of 49 co-sponsors, would do four things:

* First, it would require the state to create an annual inventory of all greenhouse gas emissions by the various sectors of Pennsylvania's economy, including transportation, electric generation, commercial, agriculture, mining, etc. The inventory would establish a baseline for each of these sectors, and allow the state to measure its future progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in each sector. This inventory could probably be performed for about $25,000 per year.

It should only be voluntary and without spending taxpayers' money. Up here in Canada, the government is spending billions on Kyoto with no plan and using foreign credits to satisfy the accord. It does not improve the climate, it is just a bureaucratic nightmare.

Vitali is a Democrat, left-wing, liberal nutcase. I do not understand how he keeps winning elections.

Pennsylvania government is among the worst in the nation. Might just be the worst.

Hmmm. That's an interesting topic. Pa. would have a shot at the crown.
