As you will see from a recent story on FR, this criminal check does not take into consideration those void of CITIZENSHIP - Illegals.
Some Long Island , Suffolk County, NY Zips when searched may not show many offenders on record; but the above linked story in Newsday run a few days ago show that it was not because these idyllic towns were free of such predators.
Cut from the Newsday report: March 30, 2005 - "The Suffolk County raids were the third time federal agents and local officers joined forces in Nassau to arrest immigrants who should have begun deportation proceedings after their prison sentences but somehow fell through the cracks.
Laura Ahearn, of Parents for Megan's Law, praised the operation but wondered why it took so long for officials to amend the system's flaws.
"Twenty-five were rounded up in Tuesday's sweep and taken to a federal detention facility. A similar sweep early this month (March) in Suffolk netted 27 sex offenders who officials said were here illegally. All are being held for deportation hearings."
Nadia Marin Molina, executive director of the Workplace Project in Hempstead, said the highly publicized sweep signals a trend in which the federal government deals with immigration problems through enforcement, rather than policy change.
"The only connection we see is immigrants and crime, gang members and immigrants," she said. "If people are eligible for deportation for serious crimes they should have been deported anyway."
Federal and local officers have so far caught 5,300 sexual predators since Operation Predator, a nationwide initiative to arrest and deport sex offenders who also are illegal immigrants, was launched in July 2003.
You have to keep checking it-----some the ones near me are different than they were 6 months ago.
Looks like 2. Amazing.
This must not be very accurate. I typed mine in and no results came up when there should be quite a few. I think it would be more accurate to go to your local county sheriff web site for better results.
What does it mean if somebody is listed multiple times?
Oh gawd. I've got 10. 6 are Mexican.
I think they should put their mug shots on there as well.
Thankfully, none. Our area isn't KNOWN for sex offenders.
(Doesn't mean they ain't there, though.)
17 here for me. But since it's done by Zip, there were a few taht were not THAT close.
A guy that raped a 13 year old lives around the corner from me. That's just great.
Well I know that Peter Yarrow from Peter,Paul and Mary, lives about an hour from me and he is not in the registry. Why? Carter pardoned him.
15 and several are grandfathers....do they differentiate between offenders who are, say, 18 year old boys who have a girlfriend who is 16, and predators who offend?
I've checked in the past with astounding results. One town may have none (or only one) - the next town over could have dozens or more. It's not surprizing when you consider the left/right politics of each region.
Thanks for posting this. The site is more up-to-date than the official state govt site. This one tells me that the guy I hired a few years ago (for a landscaping job) is a convicted sex offender. He's been here for years and he's still not on the official site.
Is anyone up on terminology ie. criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual assault, solicitation of a minor?
I discovered some pretty nasty people living in my nabe.
One is a 31 year woman.
Too bad it doesn't map them.
The zip code search here doesn't show it.
Guess the system needs a little work on mail drop addresses at county jails.
