The USPS won't go without a fight.

That stamp is outrageous; I haven't seen a white mailman in years.

I would miss the USPS very much. We actually pay very little for the services it provides. 37 cents can take a letter to my daughter 3,000 miles away on the West Coast.

And delivery to your own door of letters, periodicals, books and DVDs? Who else would provide this service at such a low cost?

(Disclaimer: I have NO relatives who work for USPS.)

My mother, bless her 86 year old heart, would go postal if the mailman didn't come every day. He is her link to the world.

Forget long distance, forget fax, forget e mail if it doesn't come from the postman it some how isn't real.

Her US Mail correspondence is voluminous. Although many of her correspondents reply by phone or e mail, if the reply isn't picked by hand from the mail box it some how isn't real. Her sisters are the same way and I'm sure are representative of lots of older people.

It will not disappear soon.
