That is a step in the right direction. Next if they will only go after rubber-neckers.

I find it's generally the "big dog SUVs" clogging the fast lane.

Not me. Tourists (from out of state; the foreigners usually have enough sense to stay out of it) or old folks.

Just hang around for a little while longer till the folks who think it is their God-given right to park their tush in left lane is OK as long as they're going the speed limit to pass someone.

My coworker says he wife will take her foot off the gas if she perceives anybody tailgating her.

Tailgaters should be slowly evicerated with a dull butter knife and their carcasses hung by the side of the highway as a grim warning to their others of their ilk.

I was stationed in Germany for 8 years and drove many miles on autobahns throughout Germany. I can vouch that you are correct, Germans only pass in the left lane, they will never pass on the right.

IIRC, it is against the law to pass on the right on the autobahn.

I sincerely wish they would do that here in Ohio, where you get the people who camp in the left lane doing 65 at best.

I've lived in Boston, D.C., NYC. Ohio is awful for buffoons who curb crawl in the passing lanes. Even worse is they are too timid to pass trucks, apparently thinking it safer to drive alongside a tractor trailer in its blind spot at 55mph for 20 miles.

The 'government' can pull those people over and yank their engine out for all I care.

That goes for you and me too!  Tell me a state where you don't get nitwits dawdling in the left lane.

I do the same thing. On some roads, drivers have to do that to protect tires. My young niece was driving on an interstate to TX, no one else was on the road either way as far as she could see. She got a ticket for driving in the better lane which was the left. Never understood that!

Yes, it is illegal to pass on the right on the autobahns and very bad manners. But there is never any need. German drivers are far, far better than their American counterparts.

Flash to pass is all you need to do. In the US, that'll get you shot at.

Trucks can only drive around 50kph or so and are restricted to the right lane.

I love driving in Germany.

My understanding of the law is that even if you are doing 80 in a 65 mph zone, if there are people behind you and you aren't passing, you can be ticketed for left lane hogging.
We drive 1-70 back and forth every weekend to the mountains and I can tell you that the word hasn't made it up that far yet. I am beginning to wonder if teenagers are being told about left lane etiquette. As I pass them on the right having given up on them getting over, it often seems like it's a kid.

In Michigan, where passing on the right has become a way of life, a rule like this would be a breath of fresh air.

Michiganders are pretty good about staying out of the left lane.

That sounds good, but I can't stand it when I'm in the left lane doing 75 passing people, and some jerk doing 85 behind me has to slow down and get mad.

I was in AZ going south into Phoenix one day heading to the airport when we had 2 sheriffs get on the interstate and both get into the left and right lanes side by side.  They slowed the traffic to a steady 40+ mph.  I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on, afraid I would miss my plane.  As it turned out they slowed the traffic because of a wreck ahead that had not completely cleared.  In order to keep the traffic flowing and not come to the typical stop and slightly go traffic, they just slowed all the incoming cars to a slower but steady pace.  It worked.  That is the only time I have seen it done for a constructive reason.

It is about time! Dang I hate it when drivers go slower than the flow of traffic in the left lane.

I think they should raise the speed limit and pull officers off of the roads so they can solve crimes. Believe me, I'm not defending the left lane blockers. I just don't want to see any more money going to our government.

The left lane is for speedlimit + 8 mph!

If you do the posted 65 on our Beltway-8 outerbelt, you are endangering yourself and others. No kidding. 80mph is the norm, some get caught, but most don't.

That's good to hear. I wish they would teach the other states how to drive.

IMO, other than old people in Florida, Ohioans are the worst, followed by people in the DC Metro area.
