In response to the death of Pope John Paul II, Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco has sent the following letter of condolence to His Excellency the Most Reverend Gabriel Montalvo, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States:
April 2, 2005
His Excellency the Most Reverend Gabriel Montalvo Apostolic Nuncio to the United States Apostolic Nunciature 3339 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20008-3687
Your Excellency:
It is with sorrow and deep respect that I join millions around the world and the faithful of Louisiana in mourning the death of the Holy Father, Pope John Paul II.
This holy man, leader of my church, the Roman Catholic Church, inspired people of all faiths. The power of his personality and his willingness to personally carry God's word to all corners of the earth brought an important dimension of spirituality to a needy world.
I remember how impressive the Holy Father was as celebrant of Palm Sunday Mass in St. Peter's Square in 1998 when my husband Raymond and I were the guests of Lindy Boggs, United States Ambassador to the Holy See. Sitting just a few yards from this deeply spiritual man and hearing him address the congregation of thousands in no less than six languages, even when the ravages of Parkinson's disease were present, was inspirational.
The people of Louisiana also fondly remember his visit to New Orleans some years ago and seeing him in the famous "Pope Mobile." The children, including my own, were especially touched as the Pope spoke directly to them of their Christian responsibilities to themselves and to others.
Pope John Paul II lived as Jesus commanded. He forgave the assassin who tried to take his life. He allowed us to see the debilitating effects of Parkinson's disease- the same illness that claimed my own father's life. In his final hours he died with dignity.
The world has lost an extremely spiritual man who joins Mother Teresa, another holy leader and his dear friend, in God's kingdom.
As he is accepted into heaven, Pope John Paul II will be missed on earth.
In sorrow,
Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Governor
If the two ladies want to be taken seriously as loyal Catholics, they should better put their money where their mouths are and reject the destructive Democratic agenda.
No?
Oh, then it's just bullsh!t.
Yeah, and quit traveling to Cuba...
While, on the surface, Governor Blanco wrote a rather eloquent tribute to the late Holy Father, I cannot forget that she is an unapologetic member of the pro-death, pro-homosexual "rights", pro-"anything goes" morality Democratic Party, and so is Lindy Boggs who makes such a big deal of her Catholicism and her having been the U.S. ambassador to the Holy See under, yes, Bill Clinton. If the two ladies want to be taken seriously as loyal Catholics, they should better put their money where their mouths are and reject the destructive Democratic agenda.
It figures. Thanks.
Too bad the GOP candidate didn't win last year.
Lindy Boggs is pro-life (as is her African-American successor in Congress, Bill Jefferson).
Yeah, because the Pope was really against those who traveled to Cuba...
Didn't Mary Landrieu serve 'under' Bill Clinton before she became a senator?
I didn't say anything about the Pope. Just bashing Blanco for her complete and utter ignorance...
"Lindy Boggs is pro-life....."
All right, but then, how can she support the Democratic Party with a clear conscience?
Hey, how can any African-American support that party, either ? It's like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders. I can't answer what goes on in their conscience.
Governor Blanco and Senator Landrieu are mebers of the "Faithful Catholics Need Not Apply" wing of the Democratic Obstructionist Party.
I never could understand how Lindy Boggs could be U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See given her pro-abortion stand.
The Cuba trip doesn't seem to have hurt her. There was a front page story in the paper today with a bunch of business and agriculture leaders praising her for being "Louisiana's foremost salesperson."
deport, you are correct. I lived in New Orleans for 30 years and still have family there. I found a website today that shows you were right. Thanks for making me research this and get it corrected. I would never intentionally say an untruth about anyone.
