When 17-year-old Steve Terrett was found shot to death and shoeless in a South Side alley last week, his mother feared he was killed for his new $110 Nike Air Jordan shoes.

Sunday it turned out she was right, Chicago Police said.

Jordan shoes were a motive for many robberies in Chicago, but police could not recall anyone being killed for a pair before the Terrett youth was slain.

The price of a human life in Chicago - an expensive pair of sneakers.

But the perpetrator is not eligible for the death penalty.

The boy HAD to have the latest fashion and the mother who had to know about violence associated with $$$ shoes bought them anyway. She also allowed him to leave the house at 9 pm. Not to mention a kid hanging out in an alley at night isn't there innocently. There's much more to this story.

Thanks to our Blue State Supremes, a pair of sneakers is worth more than a human life. Congratulations!

Not only that, someone will blame Nike.

What's wrong with a 17yo leaving the house at 9:00? In a yr or less, he could be in the military.

They need to outlaw $110/pair sneakers.

The teenage brother of one of my fourth graders in the Dominican Republic in the late 1970s was shot to death by some guy named Chino for pants in New York City. Chino demanded the pants, was refused, shot the boy, and took his pants anyway.

Without apology, these people are animals, live like animals, think like jackals, and are not fit for civilization. They are barbarians who will spawn more barbarians.

Anyone who would take the life of another for a small material item is not fit for this world and should be put on an island with all other murderers.

This country is just going nuts.

I think it was Chicago too, but a while back some young woman killed her cousin over some fries.

Yep... White Castle fries.

Here in southern California, in Belmont Shore a couple of years ago, a nice young man was shot to death for a bicycle that cost $17.

This reminds me of story I read a bout 2 years ago here in NYC where a kid worked all summer to save up and buy a $1000 leather jacket, I forget which kind, some sports jacket. And when he finally saved enough he went down and bought it, wore it for an hour, and was shot and killed for it in the same day. That he was robbed so fast tells me that they give a damn, Senator Hitlery and the other liberals will blame it on society and they probably got 4 years in a youth detention center.

I don't think you put that quite right.

Let me help you out there -

The price of a human life in Chicago - an expensive pair of sneakers crappy, two bit, thirdworld-made, so-called "designer" shoes that weak-minded, uneducated denizens of the drug/thug culture want simply because of fashion demands and peer pressure.

There, doesn't that tell the story better?

I'm amazed at the importance some people attach to brand names. They will sell their own mothers for a hot item. I can't stand the types who value material trappings over treating people with respect.

"Jordan shoes were a motive for many robberies in Chicago, but police could not recall anyone being killed for a pair before the Terrett youth was slain."

Oh yeah ---- BULL - Shi-ite!
Back in the 1980's killings were common place in Chicago over a pair of Air Jordan's and Chicago Bull's jackets (the red satin ones).

Ergo, this cop is outright lying or he has an extreeeemely short memory.

The democracy of the grave obliterates all distinctions based on class and status. A pair of Air Jordans is of no use in the afterlife.

Please, we have to understand the culture of deprivation and victimhood that creates these incidents. We are all at fault. /sarcasm
