Terri Schiavo autopsy completed Her parents, husband planning separate funeral arrangements Saturday, April 2, 2005 Posted: 1540 GMT (2340 HKT) http://edition.cnn.com/2005/US/04/02/schiavo.ap

TAMPA, Florida (AP) -- The autopsy of Terri Schiavo has been completed, and the body is ready for release to her husband, who plans to cremate her remains and bury the ashes in an unspecified family plot.

Results from the autopsy, which was completed Friday, will not be released for several weeks, according to the medical examiner's office.

Michael Schiavo has said he hopes the autopsy will settle questions about his wife's medical condition, but experts differ on whether that will happen. He declined to comment Friday.

Terri Schiavo's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, and Michael Schiavo spent Friday planning separate funerals for the 41-year-old woman, who died Thursday -- nearly two weeks after her feeding tube was removed

Michael Schiavo's family has said he plans to take the cremated remains to Pennsylvania, where Terri Schiavo grew up, but her parents and siblings had wanted to bury her body in Florida so they can visit her grave.

David Gibbs, the Schindlers' attorney, said there have been no further discussions between the two parties about the remains. The Schindlers do not plan to press the issue in court, he said.

"The court has already determined that (Michael Schiavo) will control the burial decisions," Gibbs said.

Michael Schiavo's brother, Scott Schiavo, had said Thursday that the Schindlers might not be informed of the burial location near Philadelphia because his family did not want to turn it into a media spectacle.

However, Michael Schiavo has been ordered by the court to disclose the location of the burial site to the family and inform them of any memorial service he plans.

Please provide a link to the Humana discharge papers. That bone scan showing the fractures has always niggled at me, why was it ordered twenty two days later.

If you saw my post as labeling, then I apologize. But I have found that some people have been misinformed into believing that, among other things, living wills are instruments of euthanasia. They are not. And I've noticed that much of that misinformation has come from some ultra radical types.

By the way, for those who don't know what a living will looks like -- here are the contents of one:

I, _______________, being of sound mind, willfully and voluntarily make this Living Will declaration to be followed if I become incapacitated and cannot speak for myself or make my wishes known to anyone. This Living Will declaration sets forth my firm and settled decision to refuse life-sustaining treatment under the circumstances indicated below.
If, in the opinions of my attending physician and one other physician, I am in a terminal condition where it is reasonably certain that I am going to die soon, or if I am in a state of permanent unconsciousness, I direct my attending physician to withhold or withdraw life-sustaining treatment that serves only to prolong the process of my dying.
I direct that treatment be limited to measures to keep me comfortable and to relieve pain, including any pain that might occur by withholding or withdrawing life-sustaining treatment.
In addition, if I am terminally ill or permanently unconscious, I feel especially strong about the following forms of treatment:
I ( ) do ( ) do not want cardiac resuscitation; that is I do not want my heart restarted if it has simply failed.
I ( ) do ( ) do not want mechanical respiration, unless my attending physician and one other physician agree that such help would restore my health to an extent that I am no longer terminal or unconscious.
I ( ) do ( ) do not want tube feeding or any other artificial or invasive form of nutrition (food) or hydration (water).
I ( ) do ( ) do not want a transfusion of blood or blood products.
I ( ) do ( ) do not want any form of surgery or invasive diagnostic tests.
I ( ) do ( ) do not want kidney dialysis.
I ( ) do ()do not want antibiotics.
I realize that if I do not specifically indicate my preference regarding any of the forms of treatment listed above, I may receive that form of treatment.
Other instructions:

I designate __________________, as my surrogate to make medical treatment decisions for me if I should be incompetent and in a terminal condition or in a state of permanent unconsciousness. My surrogate's address is (if applicable):

If ___________ becomes unwilling or unable to serve as my surrogate, I appoint ______________, to serve as my surrogate.

I made this declaration on the ______ day of _______________, 20____.

(signature and address lines for declarant)

The declarant knowingly and voluntarily signed this writing by signature in our presence.

(signature and address lines for witnesses)

Like those crazy "right-to-life" people? Yeah, they're crazy all right. Who are they to try to cram their beliefs in the sanctity of life down our collective throats? Why don't they mind their own business, right? SARCASM!!!

I'm familiar with Living Wills as I prepare them for people quite often. Even the attorney I work for said after really reading over them, he has reservations about them. People need to be careful what they are asking for.

I can smell the protests now with signs of "You Murderer!" and so forth.

I'm there in spirit, also.

What a complete and utter pig! Is he insane?

Does he not realize that the way he treated her parents tells the world how he treated Terri?!? I absolutely believe that he abused her, and is responsible for the broken bones in her body; I imagine he was trying to kill her when her heart stopped.

What a monster; he truly is a murderer, right along with that judge Greer! I think they both hate women as well, for "Judge" Greer also would not protect a woman that went before him to restrain her husband, and thge next day the husband stabbed and killed the wife!

They both sound like psychotics.

Like those crazy "right-to-life" people?

Like the nut cases who encouraged their children to break the law and get arrested. Like the nut cases screaming “NAZI” and comparing both President and Governor Bush to various evils incarnate. Like the nut cases who were making so much noise outside the hospice that even Terri’s brother had to ask them to tone it down.

I hope I didn't strike a sensibility in your situation.

No, you didn't at all. And I don't know if most Catholics think cremation is acceptable or not since I'm not Catholic myself. I just wanted to share what happened with my in-laws.

Exactly. His public behavior throughout this entire case tells the whole world the truth about him, but he's to wacko to see it.

Living Wills may not be perfect...most legal documents aren't...but I do not want to see them disposed of or tampered with. And I'm afraid that is what is going to happen.

Didn't the Nazis start out wanting to eliminate those who were no longer useful to their cause? Do you believe civil rights would be what they are today without civil disobedience? Isn't there a time and place for protesting, such as the intentional starvation and dehydration of someone who can't speak for herself? Let me ask you - if you yourself had been in a position to save Terri's life, would you have?

I agree, unjust hatred has no positive value. Yet, many victims, who have suffered by the cruel hands of unjust HATE- have found great value in making public recognition of their inhuman treatment well known- and By Not Forgiving that past hatefilled inhumanity. Please take your undeveloped higher consciousness and..............sometimes the victims just can't speak for themselves, that the job of survivors. Catchin' on yet?

I believe the result will be people will think seriously about what they want and will want to put it in writing. That's a good thing.

I would agree...I heard somewhere a few weeks ago that presumably, only 20% of adult Americans have a living will or some sort of written directive. I sure hope that by this time next year, that number will have increased significantly.

Hmmm, interesting....wonder which court ordered that concession and why? You don't suppose someone is finally feeling some heat?

Nah. Just Greer playing more games while trying to appear reasonable. He knows that no matter what he orders the parents will never really know where their daugher's remains are buried.

Terri was Catholic.

Perhaps, but no one here has ever offered any evidence that Terri did not leave catholicism well before her cardiac arrest. I know the RCC generally follows the dictum that if one is born into an RCC family one remains in the RCC 'for life,' but that is not necessarily so.

Terri was included in the mass for Pope John Paul II before she was cremated. And she was included in the mass yesterday in DC. Probably many more, also.

A little late; she was already in heaven.

Her lock of hair wasn't needed for the mass.

That's good to hear. Gotten past reliquaries, have we?

You know he does not have to bury the ashes, he can keep them and I am afraid if her parents keep on, that is exactly what he will do and then in the end they will never know where they are.

The parents will never know where they are, no matter how nice they are to Michael. Even if he tells them, they'll have to reason to believe he's being truthful.

Michael is insane with hatred, a true sociopath. And why not allow the Schindlers coroner access? Someone sure is afraid what might be discovered.

No one I've seen on here seems to be arguing against Living Wills.

So written declarations of wishes not to be abused before death are to be regarded, but oral ones are not? Is that your point?

Am I to suppose you also favor repealing the 400 years of Anglo Saxon common law which enforces oral contracts as well as written?
