My opus from FR? Not.
04/01/2005 | Sender

Posted on 04/01/2005 5:17:45 PM PST by Sender

Some long-time valuable posters have announced their opus to leave FR today. Well I don't. This is my family, this is my home. I may have serious disagreements with other posters and may occasionally be discouraged at the direction FR is heading. But I am not a quitter. I am staying right here, right where the center of the action is, and I will never quit. So what if others post offensive comments or views? It's a free country. Anyhow, I'm not leaving, and there is no opus. I'm ready to take on the 21st century and drag it kicking and screaming over to our side. Long live the bastion of news and free speech, Free Republic!

I have been sent to inform you that you are over your vanity limit for the last 12-month period.

Hey... it was PoohBah and hchutch who posted opuses (opusi?) tonight.

FR is a huge place. People come and go, for months at a time, myself included.

For the most part, no one really notices, unless they have made friends on the board.

Somebody help me out here. What's the opposite of an opus?

By the way, you're stuck with me, too.

Probably as classy.

I wish everybody on Free Republic would leave. Then I can have this forum all to myself without having to hear other people's stupid opinions.

Thank you for your un-opus--I feel the same way--

You know Free Republic is just like the TV set--if there is something on a thread that you don't like---GO TO A DIFFERENT THREAD---

OR, find a different forum, or read a book for a while or something---but gosh guys, this is like family, you have tiffs or even cussing contests, but you don't quit on family, do you?

Yes, a non-opus opus. A shameless vanity. But it has to be said.

It seems there are some people who, when they decide not to visit FR any longer, feel they must post a dramatic "opus" about why they're leaving, how put-upon they are, and the entire sappy mess.

The latest is decrying the "lack of civility" even though FR has not ever been exactly the bastion of polite etiquette (sometimes emotions run hot). Others have complained of all sorts of mistreatment, even though in general I've noticed that they, in fact, often were incredibly rude themselves.

So, I guess it's thin skin and a need for drama that provokes these opuses. Personally, if I didn't like the place, I would just quit logging on. I don't see the big deal.
