Some long-time valuable posters have announced their opus to leave FR today. Well I don't. This is my family, this is my home. I may have serious disagreements with other posters and may occasionally be discouraged at the direction FR is heading. But I am not a quitter. I am staying right here, right where the center of the action is, and I will never quit. So what if others post offensive comments or views? It's a free country. Anyhow, I'm not leaving, and there is no opus. I'm ready to take on the 21st century and drag it kicking and screaming over to our side. Long live the bastion of news and free speech, Free Republic!
Good for you! I think folks are getting far too upset over this week's events. I don't agree with everyone on everything, but I know well that we all need to work together as conservatives.
My sincere appologies to anyone that I may have offended during the past week. Don't take it personally, folks. The best of us get fired up from time to time.
Heh! ;-)
I'm stayin'!
While I agree with Poobah and Hutch that the Shiavo threads got pretty psychotic, I long ago found away to deal with threads that you know will go nuts: don't click on them unless you feel like visiting the insane asylum. Some topics just get hot, and they tend to be occupied by the same people on both sides, when people start carrying on the same argument for weeks on end it has no choice but to get ugly, that's human nature. And if you step inbetween you'll quickly find out why domestic violence calls are the most dangerous for cops, best thing to do is let them beat each other up and go find a different thread.
Where does one go when they leave FR? I know Tblshow went to Liberty someting or other. I may be odd but I don't get all frantic or pissed at a particular thread, I just go on to the next one that interests me.
There is a whole big life outside of staring at a monitor all day long people.
:)
...I would hazard a guess that cyborg's boots are a lot more like Condi's....
;)
:D
I dunno. Sometimes I get peeved at someone, just as I am sure others get peeved at me. When it gets to be too intense, I generally shut off the computer and go do some gardening or something (there really is a life beyond the computer). If it's become super-annoying, I might not log on as much.
I do know one thing--if I ever decide it's just too horrid to stay, I won't do an opus. Gosh I hate them. Nope, if that happens, I'll just quit logging on. I don't see the big deal about the dramatic opuses (opii?) before leaving.
And truthfully, over the years, I've seen a lot of these, and an awful lot of them come back after a time--sometimes mere days. That would be humiliating, if it were me, to make a big deal out of storming out the front door, slamming it real hard, then creeping quietly back in, hat in hand.
Ah, well...

The bigger threat to FR is the wimp whose feelings are soooooo tender he can't handle disagreement. I beleive Disney has forums where one can discuss the relative merits of Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. I hope the tender hearted panty waists make the trip to disney.com.
A non opus opus, huh,I thought I'd seen it all.
Gee, I wonder why anyone would leave?
</sarcasm>
:)
Yeah, it be rough being a Bush defender at times. But I ain't backing down no matter who jumps on me. I'm a better jumper anyhow!
Opusing is when people leave FR with a memorable (?) last post as to why they feel compelled to leave. Like because some idiot posted something repulsive. Like some of the 'I'll get that judge Greer' posts.
The only people who abandon FR are those who take themselves seriously.
Looks to me like the Pro-Death clique has finally figured out this is a Conservative forum. My only regret is that they didn't leave earlier.
