Dear XXXXXX,
Within a matter of days, the Senate could face a truly momentous decision - one with consequences that will reverberate across America for decades to come.
Senator Frist, the Republican Majority Leader, has a plan to make President Bush's judicial nominations immune to a Senate filibuster. If he can convince enough Republican Senators to go along, the nomination and confirmation of judges will become a tightly-controlled, one-party affair.
We're working hard to make sure the Senate doesn't cross this dangerous line. Here's how you can help.
Please Call Your Republican Senators Now!
Please contact Senators Frist and Alexander now. In polite and respectful language, make it clear that as one of their constituents you are counting on them to oppose Senator Frist's dangerous plan to deny millions of Americans any meaningful voice in decisions vital to America's future.
Senator Frist's office can be reached at: Chattanooga 423-756-2757 Jackson 731-424-9655 Kingsport/Tri-Cities 423-323-1252 Knoxville 865-637-4180 Memphis 901-683-1910 Nashville 615-352-9411
Senator Alexander's office can be reached at: Chattanooga 423-752-5337 Jackson 731-423-9344 Knoxville 865-545-4253 Memphis 901-544-4224 Nashville 615-736-5129 Tri-Cities (Blountville) 423-325-6240

There is so much on the line in this debate. And, I am convinced that if we mobilize as quickly and effectively as possible, we can prevent the Senate from taking the dangerous course that Republican leaders have called for. Remember, we're fighting for the strength and vibrancy of democracy itself.
Sincerely,
John Kerry
P.S. If you need extra incentive for making those calls:
Imagine a world in which every appointment to the federal judiciary is a tightly-controlled, one-party exercise. Imagine the kinds of judges that will sit on the federal bench - even on the Supreme Court -- if George W. Bush never needs a single Democratic vote. Imagine the kind of decisions those judges will make that will directly affect your life and your constitutional rights.

Dear John Kerry -
KMA! I Thank God every day that you were not elected president of this great nation. Go home, Ter-ay-za is calling!
"If he can convince enough Republican Senators to go along, the nomination and confirmation of judges will become a tightly-controlled, one-party affair. "
So John, you would not want it to be all liberal democrats or would that be OK with you?
God forbid that the President and the majority party that controls all the forts should get to choose anybody. What treason! Moveon.barf!
One would think that a person who does not understand the concept of "majority rule" would be disqualified for ANY legislative job...
Yeah, well....that happens when one party is a majority.
I'm really starting to hate these folks.....
Senator Byrd recently said all this stuff isn't necessary....Just have a voice vote in the Senate. There is no law or constitutional stipulation which supports the current rules according to Byrd.
He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.
Article II, section 2 of the Constitution (see above in bold)does not mandate any vote at all. All that's necessary is for 51 Senators to tell the president that the president has their "consent" for a nominee. There is nothing in the Constitution about hearings for the nominee either.
We have people in Washington that need to learn that if they want to run the government they might consider reading the "users manual" the founders provided.
Since Kerry deemed it to be an important issue, it looks like I may need to call my two Senators. It's an odd situation, where a smallish state like mine has two Senators on the Judicial committee, both from the minority party. "Blue" state Wisconsin is more like purple than true blue & it might be a good idea to remind the guys we (cough, cough) send to DC to represent us.
"I'm really starting to hate these folks...."
My, you are a late bloomer aren't you!
Fork ya john.
Yes, call them now and, as Arnold Schwartzeneggar said in "Predator", tell them "COME ON, DO IT!!!"
I try not to hate people. But I definitely have a sincere dislike of these......
Not only FREEPED but called Sen. Alexanders office, told them about the e-mail, forwarded it to them. Got a reply saying thank you, that explains all the calls.
