March 31, 2005 -- Auto shows in New York and around the country are becoming a magnet for youth gang activity — and authorities are stepping up their surveillance and patrol efforts to match it, The Post has learned. "Gang members are attracted to the latest, the fastest and the most expensive cars. That's one of their dreams if they ever get money — a big fancy car," said a member of the NYPD's Gang Unit.

Thugs' interest in flashy rides was behind an incident Sunday at the New York International Auto Show, where three gang members were arrested.

Its a shame. I used to go to the NY Auto Show at the old New York Coliseaum (now the location of the Time Warner building) as a child. It was a wonderful, family oriented event. Its a shame that the "pimp my ride" crowd has to ruin it like they've ruined everything else (schools, neighborhoods, Cristal, Bentleys, appreciation for the movie Scarface).

They can pimp their ride by putting chrome on a wheelbarrow in one of our finer prisons..

Gang members have been doing this at New Car Dealerships for years. They have just moved to the futuristic when they shop at the Auto Show.

How sad. Our kids love car shows (and boat shows, RV shows, tractor shows ...)

Heck, that's one of my dreams too - I'd love to own a nice new Aston Martin or Maserati. Oh well, maybe someday I can afford to buy a used one for a weekend toy. Many exotic cars can be had for cheap once they're a few years old. Hmmm, actually I've always admired the Jaguar XJS-12, even if it is a maintenance nightmare.

So they actually "buy" their own rides now ?

I thought if it wasn't jacked it wasn't jack ?
