Riding the Waves: Why Hillary will be hard to beat.
OpinionJournal ^ | 3/31/05 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 03/31/2005 3:52:02 AM PST by CT CONSERVATIVE

It is pointless to be afraid, but good to be concerned. Why? ...because she is not going to get seriously dinged in the 2008 primaries but will likely face challengers who make her look even more moderate and stable; and because in 2008 we will have millions of 18- to 24-year-old voters who have no memory of her as the harridan of the East Wing and the nutty professor of HillaryCare.

I totally disagree with Peggy, and I find her long history of dinner table chatter less than impressive as a source of predictive expertise. I'd much rather hear from a number cruncher like Barone or a big time researcher like Cook. In fact, I personally think Peggy's an airhead.

That being said, here's her list of reasons why we should be concerned about Shrillary:

Because we live in a more or less 50-50 nation;

That is reason to be concerned about whoever is on the other ticket; It says nothing about Shrillary.

because Mrs. Clinton is smarter than her husband

What does that even mean? Measured how? Totally meaningless statement.

and has become a better campaigner on the ground;

What does this mean? She's won ONE election. In a liberal state. How has she demonstrated better campaign skills then a two term PRESIDENT?? Peggy, lay off the crack pipe. Or maybe throw some data behind your nonsense.

because her warmth and humor seem less oily;

Ah, yes, humor viscosity as a predictor of electoral success. What nonsense. And by the way, she won't be running against her husband, why is Peggy comparing and contrasting the two? Wouldn't it make sense to compare her qualities against the qualities the GOP candidate will likely have? Peggy's an idiot.

because she has struck out a new rhetorically (though not legislatively) moderate course;

Right, and America will be fooled just like they were fooled by John Kerry's war hero pose---NOT! Get a grip Peggy. Most Americans don't even pay attention to Shrillary's manipulations, let alone fall for them.

because you don't play every card right the way she's been playing every card right the past five years unless you have real talent;

She ran for Senator of Manhattan (and New York state) and won. What other cards is Peggy talking about?

because unlike her husband she has found it possible to grow more emotionally mature;

Peggy=idiot.

because the presidency is the bright sharp focus of everything she does each day;

She wants it bad, therefore....? You don't think Kerry thought about it every day??

I can't go on. Sorry. I know it looks like eating your own, but Peggy Noonan is the sappiest, most fluffy, factless, dataless writer on the right. She's worthless to anyone hoping to actually learn something. I can't believe she gets paid to write this drivel. That's my comment on this article, hope you liked it. I have strong opinions sometimes.

She will be hard to defeat if you believe the lefts and MSM propaganda, it's all a matter of perception.
JUST DON"T BELIEVE IT.

In fact, if we don't get our act together by 08, we may have to chafe for 8 years saying "President Clinton."

You raise a good point. Probably the single most relevant and obvious reason to be concerned for 08 is not Shrillary, but the dearth of good solid candidates on the GOP side. The nation may be 50-50, but elections from 94 on do seem to show a particular trend in the GOP's direction. But I don't see who will pick up the baton in 08. And Peggy didn't even mention that, the dolt.

She won't even get the nomination.

She may not even get reelected to the Senate if the Republicans run a strong candidate against her in 2006. I know that is a minority view but I think she is overrated.

"She won't even get the nomination."

Hitman, I wish I could agree with you, but look at the "9 dwarves" they had last time. Who else they got? Bill Richardson is the only other one I can ever think of, and I know nothing about him, other than he's a Westerner and would get mucho hispanic votes, both pluses in terms of a pres run.

We must all pray for Bill Clinton's health, because his odious presence is the best barrier to keeping that woman out of the White House.

I am starting to see something deeply disturbing. Hitlery has seized on the Illegal Immigration issue

Why should that be disturbing? The motive force for accountability in gubmint is competition, and so long as the Dem party is a completely lefty wacko stronghold, the GOP is free to ignore the right to a large extent when they choose. We need a system that truly puts the pressure on with certain issues. If Shrillary wants to try to grab the issue, let her. It won't push the GOP left. It'll push em right.

Rudy doesn't have a chance in hell unless he convinces the GOP primary voters he is pro-life.

I hadn't noticed that Hillary had "grabbed the immigration issue" and was "running with it".

I am aware that she made a comment that she was opposed to illegal immigration. Has she made other statements?

The democrats are very unified on immigration reform.

"But, I have to wonder, which states that voted for Bush in 2004 are going to switch and vote for Hillary in '08?"

The RATS cherry pick. They will go after two or three 4-5 electoral vote states to get over the top. Even more of a reason to go after Wisconsin, Minnesota, New Jersey and Washington.

I know what you mean.

I can't see a woman in that office though.  But that's just me and I'm a woman.  I want a man to be in charge.  Although Condi is doing an excellent job in her category.  But as President, I would still rather a man be at the helm.

" I want to be 1st Lady!"

A third party semi-Conservative could split the vote in Clinton's favor again in 2008.
