Wise Behavior

Read:
1 Samuel 18:1-5

David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved wisely. . . . And he was accepted in the sight of all the people. -1 Samuel 18:5

Bible In One Year: 1 Samuel 17-20

Four times in 1 Samuel 18, the writer tells us that David "behaved wisely" (vv.5,14,15,30). In fact, he behaved "more wisely than all the servants of Saul, so that his name became highly esteemed" (v.30).

The phrase "highly esteemed" suggests an unusual respect. David was honored by all the people, but more significantly he was highly respected by those in Saul's court who were impressed by his noble character.

As Christians come to know Jesus through obedience to His Word, they will begin to display qualities of character that set them apart from others, for true wisdom is to live like Christ. It is more than common sense; it is uncommon behavior.

James said, "The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy" (3:17). This gracious way of making our way through the world can come only "from above."

David's experience can be our experience. God's promise to him is also true for believers today. He said, "I will instruct you [cause you to be wise] and teach you in the way you should go" (Psalm 32:8).

I'm posting something I posted late on yesterday's thread

Some here have already read it but I think it bears repeating.

I need to say this

I’ve been troubled by this for quite a while now, it’s not just the Terri Schiavo matter

Nor is it even all the trash people are hurling at both Governor Bush and President Bush as though they think they could've done something to save Terri by merely snapping their fingers and “abra – ca- dabra” hey presto! It’s done!

It don't work that way! Get your noses out of those fantasy novels!

I really am annoyed that these two gentlemen of MORAL fortitude and COURAGE of their convictions, their love of GOD and country make them great men. Now I’ve read every comment questioning both these traits I’ve mentioned above. I’ve heard them from posters on every thread on Free Republic; I’ve heard radio and TV talk show hosts as well, speaking of these two as well as the State and Federal legislatures not doing enough, accusing them of caving in to the likes of Judge Greer and the pro-death idiots out there.

Now, I’m not as bothered by that as what I’m witnessing happening to this forum and certain thread were I even see people who were close friends arguing and bickering amongst themselves either about what subjects are appropriate for certain threads or even how to deal with disruptors who are insistent on making their views known and basically ruining an otherwise fun and relaxing thread that’s not supposed to be a political thread.

It seams, though, that any positive thread, especially one about the President are the most desirable targets for these “trolls”; and Heaven help anyone who goes on any of the thread bashing Bush (and some that aren’t) with anything positive to say about either him or his brother in Florida.

This issue about Terri Schiavo as well as the one about the Illegal immigrants seems to have divided us all up.

hmm, isn’t this just what those who seek to harm our country want?

As for Republicans and other conservatives becoming divided in their views, isn’t this what the liberals and the Democrats want?

I’m scarred for this country, I really am! I mean I dread to think what would happen if Terri Dies

Does this mean evil would have won?

Will this mean the destruction of all we hold dear?

Is life that expendable and cheap?

I’m begging all who read this post, PLEASE! PLEASE!, Can’t we put away our petty differences and agree to disagree on different issues and RESPECT the views and opinions of others!

Let us pray for Terri Schiavo and her parents and siblings, and pray for the President and for the Governor of Florida

And most especially for our country and for Free Republic and all who post and lurk on all the threads
