PINELLAS PARK, United States (AFP) - As a brain-damaged woman passed her 12th day without food or drink in a hospice here, Terri Schiavo's parents are planning to again petition the US Supreme Court to intervene, their lawyer said.
As a brain-damaged woman passed her 12th day without food or drink in a hospice here, Terri Schiavo's parents are planning to again petition the US Supreme Court to intervene, their lawyer said. Bob and Mary Schindler have been rebuffed by a series of courts in recent weeks and days, their latest setback came Wednesday after the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals rejected their appeal to reopen the case into whether their daughter's feeding tube should be reinserted.
But the woman's parents appear set to continue waging their legal battle.
"I can confirm for you that we are now preparing to file an appeal with the United States Supreme Court," the Schindler's lawyer, Steve Kluth, said in a statement issued by his office.
However, the Schindlers have already been rebuffed once by the US' highest court in Washington on March 24.
Terri Schaivo's feeding tube was removed March 18, triggering an intense legal battle and a right-to-life political storm that sparked the involvement of the US Congress and US President George W. Bush.
Bush signed legislation backing a federal court review of Terri's case -- she has been in a persistent vegitative state for 15 years -- but the federal courts have so far declined to intervene on her behalf.
This is not murder. If someone is applying CPR to an individual, and after 15 years it is apparent that it is not working, is admitting failure and stopping the CPR murder? Terri is dying from her original injury.
That is one of the more CRUEL things I've seen on FR in awhile.
My gosh. Think about this...
There is one story in the bible about the woman who wouldn't give up and kept petitioning Jesus to heal her and He finally did because He said her faith was so strong that she wouldn't give up so He finally healed her. But He tested her faith for awhile first.
Bork said they will never hear a case on a law that is about one person, and this law was just about her. No matter what the legal or constitutional arguments. He said they just don't have time to bother. I am not agreeing with that, nor was he, necessarily, just stating the fact.
I believe these are the worst lawyers I have ever seen. In it for the exposure and their 15 minutes of fame.
Goodness, I thought that was hearsay, about her bulimia. Have they finally determined for a fact that was the cause of her collapse?
I wonder if they've come up with some way to get this angle in - probably not, though, and I'm afraid it's just going to be more disappointment.
"Interesting that you would post pictures of people in poor health because they were prevented from eating. Fifteen years ago Terri entered a state of poor health because she choose not to eat. I am amazed that her parents did not treat her for her eating problems, seems like some proactive action back then would of saved a lot of heartache."
What exactly are you implying? That if Terri Schiavo was starving herself 15 years ago, she somehow deserves starvation now? Your point is not clear, except that you seem to be suggesting some kind of moral connection between the two. And you seem to be implicating her parents in her tragedy. Never mind that the claim of bulimia has NOT been substantiated. I guess you must think your understanding of the matter allows you to make fun of the whole situation. Wow, I never thought a woman wasting away and parents lost in grief could be so funny.
But this could be about 100's of terminal or reduced capacity patients every day, but those situations are usually not contested and fall in the area of medical confidentiality and ethics. Terri's case has now opened the door to examination of what goes on behind closed hospice doors.
Something is wrong with you.
This has never been proven. Its her poor excuse for a husband's say so that she was bulemic. No one else had ever heard anything about it and the Drs. never came to any conclusions about what caused her collapse so this is all MSM hype and half truths again. This is why Terri is in the shape she is in because everyone just automatically takes the husband and the MSM's words as absolute law.
Hey, if you can't laugh at an innocent woman's forced starvation and dehydration, what can you laugh at?
Evil seems to be having a field day in our land. I've never seen anything like it.
Double bump for you.
I can't blame them for trying but I don't think anyone is going to help them. What a terrible situation!
No it isn't. Did you read the court order? I think the vilification of the Judge is worse.
A better analogy would be, you put Christopher Reeve (when he was still alive) in a closet and refuse to give him food and water until he dies. Is that murder?
That was something that seems to have come along later (the bulimia "diagnosis"). Interestingly enough, Felos is a Scientologist, and there is a huge and powerful colony of Scientologists in Clearwater - who were involved in another starvation death about 10 years ago. And one of their beliefs is that people bring things like this on themselves. So I think the bulimia charge may simply be a reflection of the Scientology background to all this. (The emergency personnel originally thought she had been beaten, IIRC.)
You seem to think that having a problem like bulemia is a capital offense. And anyway, how do you know this to be the truth? Because you read it on MSN, or saw it on television. Don't believe everything you read on MSN or anything you see on TV. Haven't you learned that by now?
You are basing your hope of the outcome on hearsay evidence, which is that Micheal Shiavo said this was what happened. Mr. Schiavo has said a lot of things, but Terri cannot speak in her own defense to either support or refute him. Personally, I cannot see giving someone the "benefit of the doubt" when another person's life is at stake. You think her parents are lieing? That they don't know her? Sure, she's been married to Micheal for 20 years, but 15 of them not in the same household. He has not known her as long as her parents have. How can he know her better, just because they slept in the same bed for maybe five years?
For thinking positive thoughts about Terri recovery?
I thought that is what we all wanted.
I have a REALLY CUTE and nice YOUNG niece who's bulemic....wait till SHE finds out HER life is now worthless.
Oy Vey!
Come QUICKLY, Lord Jesus...
