I never had any desire to run for political office, but, if I did, it would be to make a difference.
If I didn't think I could make a difference, what would be the point?
Florida Gov. Jeb Bush told us last week he just didn't have the power and authority to save one innocent woman forced by court order and armed guard to starve to death in his state.
I don't believe that's true. Not for a minute do I believe it. Jeb Bush blinked. And that weakness that he showed for the whole world should represent the end of his political career.
It's unfortunate, because I believe Jeb Bush knew, deep in his convictions, it was wrong to let Terri Schiavo be murdered by a judge's order.
He even dispatched a team of state law enforcement officers to seize her hours after Judge George Greer refused to listen to his pleadings in the courtroom.
But he backed down. When local cops informed the state officers that they would enforce the judge's order, the agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement stopped.
That's not leadership. That's capitulation.
Gov. Jeb Bush shouldn't have merely dispatched officers to the scene to negotiate with the local cops, he should have led them. He should have personally persuaded those local officers that he was the highest law enforcement official in the state and he was ordering them to stand down.
He should have been a field general, not an armchair general.
He should have walked up to that hospice with overwhelming force behind him.
He should have done so with the whole world watching.
Jeb Bush has been talked about as a potential presidential candidate. But who is going to seriously consider a commander in chief who backs down at the first sign of resistance?
Bush may have been trying to take the safe route in this crisis, but it represents, in my estimation, the end of his political ambitions.
Jeb Bush was tested, and he was found lacking.
He allowed a terribly immoral action to take place in his state and did nothing but huff and puff about it.
And it wasn't the first time.
Say what you will about former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno. I think she was a fascist. I think she was a criminal. I think she was possibly stark, raving mad. But she backed up her misguided convictions by sending armed federal agents swooping in to pick up little Elian Gonzalez and take him back to Cuba. It was wrong, but she wasn't afraid.
Back then, Gov. Jeb Bush sat by and watched his authority breached by Washington.
This time, he sat by and watched his authority breached by a puny, little county bureaucrat, a local politician, Judge George Greer.
Does the Florida governor have any authority?
If not, we shouldn't take the position seriously as a stepping stone to higher office. If it does, why didn't he use it when it counted?
I feel sorry for Jeb Bush today.
I think he knew right from wrong in this case but didn't have the courage of his convictions. I think he listened to all the wrong advisers. I think he will carry regrets about Terri Schiavo to his grave.
He could have been a hero. He could have been a leader.
Instead, he appears weak. Instead, he appears to vacillate.
My wife told me: "If Jeb Bush had done the right thing for Terri, I would have given up six months of my life to campaign for him. I would have done anything to help him."
I'm sure many people feel like that. Let me ask you today: Is anyone excited about the possibility of a third Bush administration?
Here.............have a piece of flourless chocolate cake. LOL
He never has supported Bush or the GOP; he's always worked to slam them both.
I really wish Bush had gone and requested a declaration of war after 9/11; churchillbuff would be interned as the treasonous POS he is and unable to post.
Oh the Rats are loving this, a few did speak up for life, you know the left wing nuts jobs. I respect the hand full that did, way more then the ones of either party that just played lip service on the way to the golf course.
However, Jeb Bush violating the law would be good.
Sound a bit hypocritical.
How can you possibly believe that Jeb Bush is a "good man"? That is the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard - under the circumstances. He could have saved Terri but chose not to. I think he read the polls and thought he was going to get away with it unscathed. A fatal error. They have underestimated the outrage out here.
You are correct.
I was not a FReeper at that time.
The world doesn't revolve around FR. If it did, maybe, just maybe Terri would be fed and content.
Well, maybe not.
It is interesting how many FReepers appear to be in the "Kill Terri," camp, for whatever reasons they may have, such as:
1. Husband has the right to kill her
2. Government has the right to kill her
3. We need to be a whole party - kill her
4. get it over with so we can get backto our own dinners and the 10pm news.
5. Euthanasia crowd - kill her
6. Saving the government money - kill her
7. See how stupid Scott P was - kill her
8. Bio-ethics profs - useless people should have no constituional rights - kill her
9. Organ Donar - She/he's PVS - take kidney, liver at 9am and turn of patient's heart at 5pm
10. Tired of her hanging around - kill her
11. Tax payers - don't want them old folks around - kill her
12. She's a veggie and looks funny - kill her
AmishDude,
When younger, I was at a place where a severe beating took place - so severe that there was blood all over the place. I was a much (MUCH) younger person and to this day, I still get both angry and ill.
Why?
I had to be physically restrained because I wanted to go out and grab one of the pipes from one of the attackers and beat them until they stopped.
An entire restaurant full of men, women and children and no one left the restaurant to help.
I learned much about human nature that day.
Most people at heart at pitiless cowards - willing to let others die at the drop of a hat.
Walking out of the restaruant I had to walk through the young man's blood.
So -
I don't care about you.
I don't care about your silly little 'look, that person's new,' attitude, which is a child's taunt (which children would use).
BUT I DO CARE ABOUT:
this country.
the way people are dealing with each other.
You see, AmishDude -
Terri's that guy out there in the parking lot getting his body beat to a damn pulp.
Jeb Bush was the guy holding me back and saying, "there's two many of them. We can't do anything."
MS, Felos, Death-camp like doctors, Judges (all those who said, "kill her, cause it's legal)..? They're the guys who beat that guy to a bloody pulp.
A whole restaurant full of people against six guys beating one guy to a pulp.
It didn't have to end with the guy's blood all over that parking lot.
The adults in the resaturant actively allowed it to happen.
And I'm not in Florida.
But the Gov was. And did nothing, though he was actually obligated to do so, under the oath he swore.
He's a coward. She dies. But that's human nature.
He lied. She died. That's inexcusable and dangerous.
What if Hitlery wins and starts ordering in Swat teams to pull the plug on the bedridden ? The RATS can't have it both ways, they lost BIGTIME on this issue already.
In all honesty, I ask you this: do you think bad law should be made for one, admittedly awful, case?
Hello. Healthy people with feeding tubes don't have them "yanked". And normally there aren't major controversies swirling around. Err on the side of life.
Its also about success versus fluff.
Jeb is toast. Toast. Toast.
Tale of Two Toasts during the Florida Judgenfuhrer Greer Murder Spree
I can do no such thing, but I can alert the powers that be that you are abusing JimRob's forum. If they choose not to act, then I'm fine with that.
because I'm sticking up for Terri,
No you're not. You couldn't care less about the vessel through which you can vent your Bushate.
Well, hope you're not successful in your censorship crusade.
Ain't censorship. You don't like it? Get a blog.
BTW, I can tell when I'm hitting home in that you deign to respond instead of starting a new thread.
Yeah, after engaging in frivolous lawsuits and getting hammered for the legal bills thus incurred, I can see that.
SOP, shoot down the strawman over and over and over again but never respond to the steelman.
No kidding. Now is NOT the time to trash the Bush's. W is our only hope for changing the courts. Does anyone think the left doesn't know that?
I can think of no other statement which would convince me that you are here as a disruptor from DU.
Jeb will pay with his career- he needs pay no more than that, if you ask me. I think he would still be good at local levels of government.
I think this is just bigger than he is.
